We bought into this house in October. With a crushed-gravel driveway, shovelling was a serious pain in the backs. So the following spring, we paved it, and bought a snow-blower for those 6-10" drops of white stuff. Wouldn't you know it, the first winter, I only needed it twice?
It has two speeds in reverse, and 6 in forward. Do NOT put it in 6th gear without any snow. The front of the damned thing popped up and tried to run away !!! But yes, it is a great help, for two damaged backs, and a whole load of fun. "Bigger boys need bigger toys" kinda thing.

a typical mens toy eh?
i thought that men went for big flash cars with lots of internal buttons to push.
i have a couple of online friends who have either a porsche or a mercedes.. now they have lots of buttons..
you can just see their eyes light up when they start to drive

Nawww, I don't have that kind of money or interests. I'm a blend of my Dad and a So power tools and machines, or
electronic gizmos get me to grinning.

i know the feeling, but my failing is wools and cottons etc..
i do a lot of sewing, knitting and cross stitch work.
let me loose in a charity shop or car boot sale and i immediately hone in on anything craftwise

From being single a couple of times, I can sew of necessity. At my Grand-dad's suggestion, I did try my hand at knitting, needle-point, cross-stitch and crochet. At 13 or so, the patience and consistency weren't quite there.
So instead, I do a fair number of hooked-rugs and plastic-canvas_and_yarn crafts. I've a fully furnished 2-bedroom house of plastic canvas work that I built for my little girl. Well, when she was little.

its not always something that people can master.
i can knit with any amount of balls of wool at the same time, but i cant do anything with a lacy pattern. the holes come out, in the wrong place.
when my children were little, they used to have jumpers with paddington bear and other such characters on them and at one point, i knitted me a jumper with a chinese willow pattern on it.
one of my problems is, that i start something and occasionally it never gets finished.
talking of the said children again... i bought some material to make my daughter a dress. i bought it just after she was born and the material is still in the bag.. she is now 24.

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted May 16, 2005
No worries. Given enough time, the pattern will cycle around to being "in style" again. There really is so very little that is new, eh? Just recycled styles and ways.
BTW, I sent an e-mail before I left for work. Explaining why posts here during the day are very few and far between ...

i have limited online time, so i have to get everything done when i can.
i may be slow, but i get there in the end

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear } Posted May 16, 2005
Usually about all I get in the end is a good swift boot. Atleast it seems that way.
Maybe I'm just getting older, but I find that I'm not in any rush with many things. So a note today, a reply in a few days, ... it's all the same.

i find that i dont do half the things i used to, when the children were little.
as finances were stretched, we used to buy the vegetables in bulk and i used to cook and freeze them.
i would do my own pickled onions, apples for pies and bake at least 100 small cakes every week.
now, im lucky if i have a cauliflower for a sunday roast.

With just the pair of us, we do any grocery shopping that we need on a Sunday. Fresh produce, meats, household products. We both work full-time through the week, and there's so little energy to face that in an evening any more.
Mind you, I find I still have lots of energy for a tumble and play with the grand-kids. The one blessing of my daughter starting early, as did I.

nowadays, we dont usually have such a varied diet..
is the second man ive had in my life and he is a lorry driver and eats typical lorry drivers food. chips with everything.
he has a 2 year old grandaughter. she idolises me
maybe because i act silly around her, but at the same time, instill some discipline..

We're pretty much basic meat and potatoes people. Or with a pasta, but still simple. Mind you, I have an imagination and never make a meal the same way twice.
Work days, I'm home an hour before milday, so Monday to Thursday, I usually work up the supper.

i used to eat everything that he ate, but i put loads of weight on
i now tend to eat what i want, but he isnt happy about that and can be very verbal at times. i like pasta and rice and love pizza..
i have to do ALL of the cooking, so i insist on eating out, once a week, just to get a break..

Again, we do find a good trade off between the heavy, the fatty, the starchy and the healthy. And atleast once a week, we do have a dinner out or a take-away. Yhe day we met was my 25th birthday, and I weighed 155 pounds. This last few years, I have finally left that stagnation of 155-165. I now hold, week to week at 170. I blame a still active metabolism, I suppose.
Unfortunately, due to some severe feminine complications, a medication she needed added about 30 pounds and 2 full cup-sizes in about 2 months. None of which is the least bit willing to leave again. I have no problems with this, but you can imagine that it still bothers her.

i try to have a varied diet and eat more healthily, but there are times when im having to cook 2 different meals as he refuses to eat anything foreign, with herbs and spices, or boiled, as opposed to fried.
i used to eat the same as him, but i soon ballooned up and as you say, it doesnt want to leave.
but as a trained cook who is used to cooking for the masses, i struggle with cooking for one.
so i end up with enough food for a week. which isnt helping the figure..
everyone knows that im a larger lady and it seems that everyone i talk to, is realising the benefits of having a bit of meet on the bones and go for women like me.. i have many comments from men friends who say that they dont like stick insect figures of woman anymore.

Have I mentioned that when we met, milady was also military? A cook! So you can imagine, me single again, in the middle of nowehere, and here's a fine lady who's JOB it is to fill my belly. A match made in heaven.
I have no idea of your height vs mass, (such info from a lady is NEVER suited to the open threads ), but I do know that when I wrap arms around, ... Bones are not what I hope to be enjoying either.
