I know exactly what you mean. Thankfully, you probably haven't used it for 18 years like I have. I am trapped, highly specialised, an expert with an skill that is no longer highly rated, or sought after like it used to be. My experience has extended to using three software in great depth, PHOENICS, STAR-CD and FLUENT. Although the iterations are quicker now, due mainly to faster processing speeds, the need for accuracy, greater resolution, and less steady state analyses, has ensured that simulations take just as long, and are just as frustrating. I once submitted a transient job that took just over 1 month cpu time!!!!!!!!!! Learn a different skill before its too late!

My goodness, The French chap I work with and I thought we were the only people left who used Fluent!
Well, admittedly I am supposed to be using Fluent (it was on my job description) but I have been shunted into thermo-acoustics (a topic that my university doesn't even cover). So now I am fairly handy on a software (Sysnoise) that has very limited further job opportunities, and I can't relate it to any theory, because I don't know any.
No wonder the company I work for is going down the tubes faster than early morning rush hour commuters at Victoria.
On a different note, bad luck at not getting into the play offs this year, I think the Tractor Boys were a lot of people's tip for promotion, and I'm sorry they aren't going up.
For my sins I follow Brentford, Hearts and Queen of the South, for various bizarre reasons, and for the most part its been a totally indifferent season. Hearts will get into Europe, but only because the current standard of Scottish football is total mince. And as for the farrago that has been BFC this year, I'm almost glad I'm 600 miles away in the festering hell-hole that is Switzerland.
Anyway, thanks for the message. Long simulations are the bane of my life. My boss wanted one done that I calculated would have been finished just after christmas 2004. My internship finishes in August (amen!).
As for other skills, I have learned to knit this year. Does that count?

I think everything counts as a skill worth having these days. And I speak as one who has so little to fall back on I never leave more than four inches between me and any available wall....

Hello Lady Lowena,
Thanks for making me feel better about my knitting skills! Is that an original comment, and if so, can I borrow it as I think its great!
