Believe it or not, I am on nicotine patches and anti-depressent tablets.

I had to take the tablets 10 days before I attempted to give up smoking. They're "supposed" to make you feel better in yourself so when you give up, you're not a complete dragon, but revert back to your "normal" self after you've given up - if you see what I mean.

I have to see the doctor once every 2 weeks to make sure all is ok, but some surgeries run a smoking cessation clinic instead of seeing the doctor.....everything is done on prescription which is good.

One thing I must say is, I don't miss the nicotine, just the actual act of smoking. I'm now knitting furiously!!!!!!! smiley - laugh

If you need to chat, just post me and I'm on most days except weekends, but most importantly, you do have to WANT to give up to succeed.

The reason I'm giving up is my "real" father has died of lung cancer which will increase my risk of getting it so I've taken the bull by the horns and bobs your uncle!!! smiley - winkeye

smiley - goodluck

have you set a date yet for quitting?

Yesterday certainly put the icing on the cake for me......ended up at A&E. Couldn't breathe properly without it hurting. Ended up in "majors" department of A&E whilst they hooked me up to 2 heart monitors.....

They went through with me about 4 times what had happened in the morning, and each time I'd told them exactly what had happened....couldn't stop coughing....couldn't breathe properly without pain etc.....

They tried to take blood from my arm, but my vain kept contracting. I did warn them about that because I'm afraid of needles... Eventually they took it from my pulse in my wrist. Now that DID hurt! I smiley - cry after they finished and I have a huge bruise where they took the blood.

Firstly they thought I was on my way to having a heart attack...AT 28!!!!! then they thought it could have been a blood clot....this heightened their suspicions due to the fact that I smoked and am on the pill. After 6 hours of waiting, they came into my cubicle and said I could get dressed....OK that's fine, but I need unhooking from the machine first, I thought!

Once I was detatched from the machine, I got dressed and waited for them.

They came bouncing in the room saying I was OK, and that they were sending me for an X-ray because they suspected I'd damaged muscles with all that coughing.

I said, if they were happy that the blood results came back OK and that I didn't have any kind of chest infection, I would for go the X-ray if it was only muscle damage. They said they were 99% sure, so I said thank you and left.

I really didn't want to hang around for another couple of hours just to get the X-ray and then another couple of hours for someone to talk to me about it, but hey - it's all over now...
