Just thought I'd drop by and say, "Hello!"...I live in Coventry too. Like your journal entries, I think you drive like me.
Have you been making the most of the great weather we've been having over the last couple of days, or are you stuck indoors?
Drop in for a cuppa sometime.

Hello Martin!
Thanks for dropping by :o) Which bit of Coventry do you live in?
My driving has been termed "interesting", although I've improved from the days when people would refuse to get in car with me...
Have been out enjoying the sun, but the past few days I've been stuck at work. As (mis)fortune would have it, I have tomorrow and Friday off, so of course it's going to rain. Hey ho...

I live in Holbrooks. I have today and tomorrow off. I'm fairly fair skinned, so I don't tan, I just go lobster pink and then white again, with a lot of peeling in between!

I'm either in Little Heath or Foleshill; different people and maps say different things...
I seem to have some kind of disagreement with tanning. Parts go lobster pink then white, others lobster then brown, and others refuse to burn OR tan. The only bits that reliably go brown are my lower arms and my knees.
Peeling isn't good...

Hi fellow peeler!
We actually live quite close to one another. Do you use any of the local pubs? I live near the Hub but hardly ever use it. The Parkgate's ok, I use the Craftsman now and again. The kareoke on a Tuesday evening isn't bad. If you like curry, I think the Hollybush takes some beating, although the William IV has always been good. I used to live in Broad Street in Foleshill a few years ago.

hello!
The world wide web brings many people together, some many miles, some probably a matter of several hundred yards!
I haven't used many of the local pubs yet, although I've used the Royal Oak a few times. My pub visitations have reduced drastically since I left uni. I think I know where the Parkgate is, but where's the Craftsman?

Rains...
The Hub....Holbrook Lane..(Cheap & cheerful)
The Craftsman....Beake Avenue (Good farmhouse dinners)
The Parkgate....Parkgate Road (Good Sunday afternoon live music)
The Hollybush..corner of Holbrook Lane and Lythalls Lane (Great curry)
William IV.....Foleshill Road (great curry)
Stag & Pheasant...End of Holbrook Lane by Courtaulds. (Excellent mid-day fare & parties)
Whereabouts are you? Are you at the Foleshill end of Holbrooks Lane or the other end?

Thanks - I feel an expedition to some pubs coming on...
The Foleshill end, and probably slightly off to one side. I have to admit my geography is still very poor!
Still at least this weekend there wasn't quite the risk of sunburn there was last weekend!
Hello Rains!
Mystic Martin Posted Jul 21, 2003
If you're at the Foleshill end, try the Stag & Pheasant, Carol is the Landlady, the grub is excellent and the grog not bad at all. How ar you doing anyway?

Pretty fair. Am at work and don't want to be, but that's just the usual morning blues till my cup of coffee gets working. Also my car gets serviced tomorrow (60k miles) so that will be very expensive!
What about you?

Mystic Martin Posted Jul 22, 2003
Today was only my second day in the new job, (although I have done 4 weeks of training prior), so it's all pretty new still; but novelty apart, I think I'm going to really like it. My car has 110,000 on the clock! and still going strong.

That's good - you've got to like what you do! What do you do, BTW?
110k is pretty impressive, what car is it? I did have a Mk2 Golf GTI which has just cracked the 100k barrier when it got written off - only just worn in for one of those. Mind you, my dad has a Volvo 240 which got to 190k and was only just beginning to need a rebuild.

I've just started with NDC. (New Deal for the Communities). There are 39 New Deal areas in England and Wales that have been identified as being in need of urban rejuvination. Coventry has Wood End and Hillfields. I work in the Wood End area. Basically what we do is liase with the local community to help them feel better about their own environment. We liase with social services, drug and alcohol advice lines, race relations, environmental health, victim support and so on, and try to get the residents more involved with the rejuvination of the area. We speak to the local kids about drugs and unsafe sex, the old folk about home protection and so on. It's tough work, but I think it can be very rewarding.
My car is a 10 year old Rover 620sli. It runs beautifully (touch wood)!

Sounds very interesting work - it must be great when you realise you've made a difference to someone, but it also sounds like it could be a long haul.
Most cars will keep running happily if you change the oil and filter regularly, and all the little things like that. I like playing with cars but don't have the space at home, but fortunately I get to play with cars at work so that's OK.

The thing is Rains, I am 46 years old now, and have been doing loads of different jobs since I left school at 15. This is the very first job I have ever had where I have gone home in the evening and felt as though my efforts had really made a difference to someone's life. That's a very good feeling, that you can't put a price on. I actually get up in the morning now, and can'r wait to get into work! Weird for me!

It's never too late to find your niche but it's always good when you do .
You mean you even look forward to going into work on Mondays? That must be good!
