It was me! I just signed up! There are other nerd42s i think, even though i've taken [email protected], nerd_42.tripod.com, nerd42 as an H2G2 nickname, and nerd42 on IFMUD, they persist in taking my name and i have to take my secondary name of "Gandark" instead.

By the way, any advice for a new guy there?

HELP! The only times I've been on the MUD is when I'm supposed to be doing something else in a class, on a PC and then after the class I go and use the Net on a Mac, both with MSIE. They are both on the same network, and have the same firewall and use the same connection. The firewall won't let you telnet. The ifMUD web client works on the PCs but on the Macs it doesn't. How do I get on ifMUD on the stupid, stinking Macs? the Java client doesn't work at all for anything. I tried to get the MacMush deal, but the link was broken.

For the Mac problem, try looking up MudDweller. One link I found was http://tecfa.unige.ch/moo/book2/node16.html , but I wouldn't know if its links work or not.

And advice? Start with the FAQ, then there's the help files, but just kind of kick back and relax until you seem to get the hang of how the place works. The command 'lounge' will take you to the... ummm, currently it's the 'Adventurer's Lemon Meringue', but that's the main hangout, anyway--and the people could give you some good advice if you have trouble with the whole Mac thing, or actually any problems at all. Exploring a bit is good, to get familiar with the layout of the place. 'xyzzy' will always get you back to the Long Hall, if you get lost. And you know where I'll be.

Hi. DavidW helped me with that last night. I got a big headache, but I'm back on this morning feeling a lot better after a good night's sleep. It looks to me like some people stay on 24/7. I got my own Ediface Towers room now. It's #6007 (sixth floor.) I wanted that number because if you take out all the zeros then 6*7=42 (asterisks are for multiplying in most programming languages just in case you didn't know, blah, blah, blah)

I also learned how to EMOTE. I want still to build a Brockian Ultra Cricket Stadium which could be a room specifically built for EMOTE fights.
