Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

something that came to me, please don't worry

drip drip drip
the rain falls harshly against the window as the shutters rattle in the wind
a siren blearing in the night, forgotten already past
starless sky black like ink fallen on a page freshly spilt and spreading
spreading always through the world through my heart
alone....
alone I sit and wait for the return of that bright light
carried only by those I love and none other
and yet I strive to fill the void,
reaching always to something else some momentary joy,
perhaps this is why I sit in silence all avenues been trodden down
still empty and waiting
when will my vigil end?
and then suddenly again I see against the sky a light
and my soul feels the joy it brings wanting to hold it evermore
yet knowing to do so would but smother it
restlessly I pace trying ever to capture it's wondrous smile
it's joyous laughter
and yet I worry is my heart stained by that ink black drop?
is my happiness my own?
if I call out will my desire answer or will I be left,
again alone
again sitting staring at that starless sky of darkness,
in solitude the heart of man does not belong
lonely, weary, and cold

Sol

It creates an atmosphere. Which is surely what you want in a poem.
