h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hello and welcome to h2g2

I am one of the site's Aces and it is my job to meet and greet new researchers and make sure that they are ok and can find their way around the site.

One of the first things you can do is to give yourself a name by clicking on the preferences button and replacing your researcher number with the name of your choice.

Once you have done that, a page well worth looking at is the <./>Welcome</.> page. Here you can find out some general information about the guide and links to help pages.

May I also suggest visiting the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>. GuideML is the computer language that h2g2 uses, and this page will help you to fill your user space with all sorts of neat stuff

If you are wondering how to make the smiley pictures like then click on <./>Smiley</.> which will take you to a page which shows all the smileys.

If you are feeling a bit lost then clicking on <./>DontPanic</.> will take you to the help pages, or feel free to ask me by clicking on the reply button below, and I will do as much as I can to help

You need to make sure that you put the guide entry in Guide ML and then insert the code for whichever picture you fancy.

A187229 eplains how to insert the code and C809A540578 and A680582 are a list of some of the pictures that are available on h2g2

The Guide ML clinic is the best help page to go to. It can be found at A187229. It can tell you far more about the programming language than I can though if you have any queries or questions feel free to ask. My advice would be to look through the various areas related to whatever you want to do

If you mean can you set up a club, that is entirely up to you. Just create a new guide entry for your club and invite people to join

Well technically you have to ask Abi who is one of the Italics.

If you go over to Aces and have a look around, then if you fancy it you can leave a message and see what happens.

I know that ACE's are recruited approximately every month, so it could be a few weeks before anything happened. In terms of whether you have been here long enough, that all depends on how comfortable you are with h2g2. How well do you know it<?> It might be worth doing a bit of practice in terms of helping people. That way, you will know if you really enjoy it.
