I am now adding my introduction.
Let's hit the surface stuff and work our way in. I'm a short skinny white 23-year old who wears glasses. I live in Camden, Maine, USA. Hm. I think I'll lift from a post on another forum I wrote:
I'm a person of extreme polarity who tends to oscillate between said extremes, most times wildly. I listen to Outkast and Wu, Black Sabbath and the Beatles, Mozart and the Beeth. A few of my favorite books (in quotations as html doesn't work): "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene; "Art& Physics" by Leonard Shlain; The Dark Tower series by Stephen King; The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
I don't believe any act can be judged in objective black or white- i.e. there is neither 'good' nor 'evil', just events that are subjective to the human experience. I don't, however, believe morals and mores to be made valueless due to their inherent subjectivity. It's 'good' to form a personal system of ethics -with the hope, not the requirement, that they be beneficial to one just as much as all. The Universe does its thing- what we make of it is essentially inconsequential.
I learned something from the Buddha: mindfulness is the beginning, but it doesn't give one the right to criticize the acts of another because their path to enlightenment twists a different way. Worry only about your own thoughts and subsequent physical expressions- if you want to 'teach' other people, do so by example.
So that's a little something about me. I'll update, personalize, and hopefully be a prolific contributor to what has to be the greatest endeavor in human history.
