Shhhhhh........due to circumstances and stuff - I think I'm back now! and a bit of front :-) Started conversation Dec 6, 2003
So
Here I is - bit fed up - lost me job - general feelin that the world is out to get me type of thing - trying to be cheerful 1 - 2 - 3
Have to get sorted on my own mobile phone - tryin not to use the work one (ex-work but not yet out of contract) on the basis that they're askin for over £150 for last months use - which one do I get??
Done a spreadsheet trying to compare - not that you can 'cos they all semm to charge different stuff - so question 1 - how much mobile phone will I use per day???
How much time will I use 'cos if it's 10 minutes a day then the answer is either O2 or virgin [DON'T comment on the name] - but if it's 20 minutes it's either virgin [DON'T DO IT] of Fresh network prolly better not on that one either.
Also also and as well, including and so on - should I spend my time on Monday cooking lunch for 12 care workers who take care of Old folks and stuff, or should I spend it exclusively looking for methods of gettin back to some sort of work / hunting jobs and/or imagining ways of gettin' back at the bar Stewards who are tryin to get rid of me in the first place??
Don't like this game!!!

H'mmm... lets put the phone question aside for a bit... statistics is with us always.
I don't think there is any harm with giving yourself a bit of a holiday from your current grim reality. Sounds to me like you're still in delayed shock, and the obvious thing is to lash out blindly and cock up because you cannent think clear. Until you know all the details you can't take action against the PTB, and you can bet your life *they* arn't in any hurry to be helpful. I take it you've been to CAB and Legal bods and done all the possible ground work? Well, if you have, fine, and if you haven't, get that done - then leave it alone for a bit. Turn off. Have a bit of fun. Do some stuff you've been meaning to do and start relaxing a bit. Easier said than done, I know, but it'll pay dividends in the long run. A bit of distancing actually makes you think clearer, believe it or not, which will make you fitter to stick 2 fingers up their noses when the time is in it.
And... well all this guff is actually based on personal experience - the boys father was (and still is, far as I know) Alcoholic and would play incrediably vicious mind games... whatever the game was, I'd still be in the wrong ... oh boy and how, too! And of course, I was like a puppet having my strings jerked... which is very roughly where you are. The trick is to take control of yourself so no-one can pull your strings I guess... and I found the best way to do that was to do the groundwork and then do my own thing to the best of my ability.
Which meant being kind to myself.
So get going and have some fun... not that cooking for 12 is my idea of heaven, but different strokes for differnet folks. Get something creative going you can lose yourself in and find a sense of achievement (doesn't have to be expensive either), learn to play a bit
and above all stop beating your head against a brick wall. It achieves sweet FA and only gives you a headache.
I'll have a think about the mobile and come back if you can bear another lecture.

1. It's easy to give advise when you're not directly involved - it took me months - years to learn not to get my strings pulled because there wasn't anyone around to tell me stuff - thats the beauty of this forum.. you can guarantee there's some nosey bugger who'll stick their sixpennorth in!
2. Once you've got the hang of it, you've got it for good, too.
3, Yes, of COURSE Tef is getting smutty again... this is Tef you're talking about
4. Self help is the only help worth having - but its handy to have a few mates cheering you on from the side lines!
PS Do you want a lecture on the mobile now? I've had a chance to have a think...... what a busy, nosey little bunny I am!

OK.... (Ooh, I've gone all shy, now)
How often will you really NEED a mobile? Is it purely for social, or are you going to use it as a contact for job hunting? Also (big point, here) how much can you afford to budget each week/month - I take it you'll get a pay as you go?
Have you no landline? If you get connected to BT via NTL, then they are currently doing a deal that is quite reasenable? Just a thought... jobs tend to contact people on landlines primarilly, and mobiles as a back up.
Figure out who the main people you're likely to call, and find out what networks they are on - then go for that. I'm sending texts from a BT Cellnet to (I think,)a Vodaphone network at 25p a time, which is ridiculous.... I use Fresh (yes, I know,,, silly name) & texts cost me .8p to the same phone (its just that I've run out of credit on one, and use the BT cellnet one as back up). Frankly, I'd recommend Fresh.. A) because for an extra quid a month you get an itemised bill so you can figure out where and how you can economise B) Its obviously a Pay as You Go jobby, so you're about in control as you can be - no nasty surprises bill wise and C) You can get a Fresh Sim card from Carphone Warehouse for a tenner (and that includes £5.00 worth of free calls) so you can bung it into your "work" phone until they demand it back... by which time you can accidentally have lost your original Sim Card with all its records.. and the company will have to replace it... oh dear, what a pity, what a shame, never mind.
THEN all you have to do is simply buy or accquire another handset. You never know, Santy might be good to you and provide one anyway.
Lecture over... you can come out now.
Sorry if I sound bossy...I don't get uptight about injustices to me - water off a ducks back - but I get ever so miffed at injustices to others

Wow
You've been thinking too much for a Sunday morning! The Virgin figures say .15p for the first 5 mins - and then only 5p.
Yes I'll need it for job hunting for certain - and to call friends and mother and stuff.
Landline ain't poss at the moment as I'm hiring but will be as soon as I get somewhere proper.
I'll try and think some more and let you know eh!
What will you teach me now Miss??
