I think it might be a good idea to rename this 'Upper Class Women in Ancient Athens', or something like that, since you only mention poor women and slaves in a single paragraph, in passing. I would expect an article entitled simply 'Women...' to go into more detail about the other, presumably larger classes. What do you think?

I've taken out a couple of links because I think, as you linked to the title page of the site anyway, having several links to the same site is slightly redundant.

Otherwise I think this is ready to send back to the Eds.

Thanks Bernadette, but I'm afraid I disagree. The only section which specifies rich or poor women in the Everyday Life section which deals with both. The rest of the entry applies to women from all walks of life.

Is that not clear? smiley - erm

Well, it seems to me that most of the article is about married life, property, dowrys, motherhood, betrothal - none of which apply to the female slaves and prostitutes mentioned at the beginning but I appreciate that there is a serious lack of information about their lives.

As you probably noticed, I didn't change the title, just asked your opinion on the possibility of changing it. If you don't like the idea I'll leave it as is.

You didn't say whether you are happy to have me send it to the Eds? I don't want it hanging around in limbo when it could go into the 'pending' pile so if I don't hear from you by tomorrow night I'll send it in anyway.

Oh I know, sorry!

I agree that there isn't much about prostitutes or slaves, but that is only in passing. The entry overall relates equally to poor and rich women, without really including slaves or prostitutes. I beleve there is an entry on slaves in the EG already.

I'm happy for it to go if you are. Sorry to be awkward, and thanks for subbing! smiley - biggrin

It's out of my hands now, so if you think of anything else or notice typos I've put in or missed you'll have to use EF.
