Always good to hear from a fellow smiley - musicalnote 'Jazzer', dizzy! I guess, for a curry recommendation...gee, depends what you like? But be sure to specify 'mild', ok!! I suppose, something like Butter Chicken, or just a sort of a side dish, like some curried veggies...y'know, just to 'get your feet wet', so to speak. And, to be on the safe side, be sure to ask for Raita (a yogurt dip, cools after the spicier stuff), & some naan bread - a bit like Pita bread.

I listen to a fair variety of Jazz: 'Trane, Diz, Oscar Peterson, 'Bird, (even some modern/contemporary stuff, like MMW, John Scofield, etc.) alot of Canadian groups! The great thing, is I volunteer at a local Jazz & Blues club, so I get to hear a variety of live music smiley - musicalnote there, usually 2 nights a week - for free! smiley - cool. Just wondering, do you listen to Jazz online, at all? Found some good sites out there! like http://www.ejazz.fm , from London. In addition to 2 (on air?) channels - the Red Room, upbeat & swingin' , or the Blue Room, cool & mellow - they've also got a whole series of 1 hr specials on the various types of Jazz. Or, a Canadian 1, http://www.skyjazz.com . And, you probably know about http://www.jazzonline.com , or http://www.jazztimes.com (just news, etc there, but, they have got forums, too!) Anyway, stay in touch, ok.smiley - smiley So long, for now...peace..& smiley - cool listenin', ok!

Hey! Thanx for the quick reply. I live about 40 miles away from Chicago(I grew up living in the city,on the west side, the best side)it's a great town for live jazz. One of the bright lights locally is a piano player/singer named Patricia Barber. I just bought one of her earlier cds called "Nightclub" Excellent! A great version of "Bye Bye Blackbird" she puts it to a langorous tempo unlike anything I've heard before.
I don't get in to check the scene nearly as much as I'd like to but when I do,I like to go to The Green Mill a great nightclub on the north side of town. It's been around for nearly 100 yrs.! It was a speakeasy during prohibition.
Thanx for the sites for jazz online. I've never checked that out,but I'm going to as soon as I finish this missive.
It's been great reaching out to another jazz fan, hope to hear from you again.
peace

Yeah, we had Patricia Barber up here, for our Jazz fest, a couple years ago. I didn't actually get to see her, due too scheduling, but I heard it was a great show!

Actually, I should've put it up, before, but http://www.yardbirdsuite.com , the club I volunteer at, is where I do the bulk of my 'live'smiley - musicalnotelistening. They were closed, for the holidays, but they reopen this Fri. with a contemporary Blues artist named James "Super Chikan" Johnson. They've really had some great talent in, over the last couple years, among the more impressive Jazz vocalists, were; Jessica Williams, Karrin Allyson, & Kim Parker (Charlie's stepdaughter...Chan's daughter, very warm, genuine, & understated vocalist - actually signed my CD smiley - cool).

My other favorite little spot, is a cozy little Italian restaurant called Zenari's (http://www.zenaris.com )...actually, it's on the north side of the city, too smiley - winkeye.

But, yeah, I'd appreciate staying in touch, dizzy...peace & smiley - cool listening!

I overlooked/neglected, to mention a very good radio program, from Down Under, called Jazztrack. The direct URL, is http://abc.net.au/classic/jazztrack/ Its a 2 hr program, I'm just listening to some Jay McShann (spelling?)on it. The great thing, is that they archive, or sav programs, for a couple weeks, & you've got a choice of listening in RealAdio, or the Windows MediaPlayer formats. It tends to be older, or more traditional Jazz, but, a great program, just the same - peace....& smiley - cool listening smiley - musicalnote

Checked out your club's website, pretty cool! Wow you have Ticketmaster up there too huh. They are just too large a corporation! No wonder all the good tix for all the good shows are never available to the general public.
I just picked up and copied Karrin Allyson's cd " Ballads" very nice. I don't see what the big deal over Diana Krall is,there are plenty of other pretty white women that can sing good jazz.
Checked out a couple of the sites you reccomended. It was so funny, the first time I loaded the ejazzfm address,I left off the fm and got a jazz site from Indonesia(I think)it looked preety cool but I couldn't read a thing. The second time I tried ejazz I got a search engine for jazz sites, was that supposed to happen?

These computers!....can be...kinda 'priblematic'...require precise instructions, sometimes..but you ever slip up, they let you know in no uncertain terms, right? That Jane Monheit's the best looking Jazz singer I know of, was on the cover of Dec.'s Jazz Times...whoa!

peace & smiley - cool listenin'!
