Ours passed away 1 1/2 ago and it was her only wish....

Hi abbi, so sorry to hear about your continuing problems with your brother ... 
... I would just like to say here that this is not always the case with families. In my own family, my sister and I have always been close and we are still close even though there are *major* differences between us. My sis is a religious fundamentalist, and I have broken with traditional religions ... and there have been serious confrontations between us, *but* we both still love and respect each other. We enjoy each other's company and by now we know what we should not discuss with each other.

That is wise to know what you should avoid Willem.
It is true of many long term relationships.
Wish I could pin my situation with my brother on needing that sort of agreement. I would be flexible if a window opened.
Who knows what the future holds.
Thankfully good surprises do come along too
