Hiya! Here in South Africa:

One of my relatives was in prison for a while for manslaughter - a car crash in which two people were killed.

There may be others ... I have another relative who beat a worker to death but I don't know if he was jailed or for how long.

Our prisons are very overcrowded and there are lots of murderers, rapists, and so forth, who never get caught, or don't get convicted, or even manage to escape from jail.

I don't know how many people are in jail for non-violent offenses.

I also think we need a new option for punishing/reforming non-violent offenders. But certainly we also have to do something to catch, convict and punish/reform/stop all those violent criminals.

I just love S/A and enjoyed every time Ive been there, almost got married there once, (but thats another story)
