I have heard various things about this Bill.
The first thought is who enforces and how.
What does that mean for record keeping and the amount of personal info for registrations?

There were rumors about email subscriptions being charged five cents here , but that was false.

I have had .orgs complain and they admit to spaming saying they get much needed funds that way and it is cheap for them to get the word out. IMO It is better than sales calls.
Some of these are political .orgs

If you have ever *talked* to any subsidiary of a company they can call you! Companies are huge these days and diversify into everything.
Will that rule stand for spam too?

You seem well versed in the technical areas.
Do tell me what you know!smiley - biggrin
I know ever since I have had a *spam filter* I have gotten moresmiley - cross
I also get a lot more junk mail which I had successfully eliminated before owning a computer.

1: set up a separate email address to use whenever you need to give an e-mail address and are not to bothered about replies.

2: for you your main account try and avoid webmail only as most webmail software has poor filtering tools.

if you must use webmail try and use one that offers an imap service (imap is a way of using a client on your local machine in addition to the webmail & keeping both synchronised).

Use a local e-mail client that offers good filtering tools (message rules), learn how to use them, 90% of spam sent to me is delivered straight to my deleted items folder thanks to good filtering.

3: be careful

I thought it intresting that the US has gone for an opt-out system and the EU has gone for an opt-in system.

I like opt in better, unless it includes all their subsidiaries.

The trouble has been that it does no good to opt out.
Like they said in one article, it confirms you are a valid address.
The other thing is there are one day use addys and the spammers use them.

Thanks for the tips!smiley - ok

Post 76

HappyDude

one day use addys?

the one spammers use do not exist at all, If I had your e-mail address I could send you an e-mail that would appear to be from any addy I choose (real or fake) ... now most responsible e-mail providers will check that the domain part of the e-mail address really exists and bounce ones form non existent domains but that apart any email address real or fake smiley - smiley

It takes about 5 mins to set up your own email server if ya know what ya doing smiley - erm

Maybe that is what they are talking about.
Not an actual one day addy.
I noticed the same people were sending under different names/addys.
The domain was different each time.

I have managed to eliminate most and I hate messing with my computer when it is acting strangely anyway.

I want to change my provider soon. I'm ready for a faster connectionsmiley - smiley It will be a good time to re-do my email also.

I try to keep my email addy seperate from my ISP, that way I don't have to mess around making sure everyone has my new addy every time I change ISP.

I use sdf.lonestar.org for my main e-mail account, it's geeky but pretty reliable (most of the time) with webmail, imap & shell access to my emailsmiley - spacesmiley - smiley

The problem with this article is that it also relies on computer generated scene which feathers in the missing answers in the words of X-axis company that does this for court cases and other important events. This article also assumes that Oswald was an agitator in the Cuban crisis. I am not at all sure the latter is a *fact*

I do not subscribe to Oliver Stones explanation either.
