Hi there! (or should it be "All hail, our Glorious Leader?" )And welcome to h2g2. My name is Solnushka and I am one of the volunteer ACEs, which basically means that I flit around greeting new researchers like yourself, spelling really badly in the process and helping out wherever I can.

Well, I don't think we have little beepers going on and off when a specific person come online, but if you click on the 'who's online' button you'll get a small pop up window of everyone else who's opnline (surprisingly) and can keep an eyeout that way...

i have a question about the 'search' button. to search for myself (to tell someone what to search for) i typed in 'syrpyntys'. it said 'nothing shows up with that name' or something like that. then, i see the 'narrow down your searches' thing, i choose the 'search for a friend' and typed in 'syrpyntys' band it found me. is there a way to search WITHOUT the 'who's online' and WITHOUT the 'search for a friend' to search for myself? for everyone else, it works fine. could it be i'm searching for the wrong word?

What I think the problem is, is that you've not used the name "Syrpyntys" on your page - (it's only used in your nickname). The normal search box will only look for words actually in your introduction, and because there is no mention of "Syrpyntys" in your introduction - it won't find you.
Therefore the only way of getting to you is searching for your name in the "search for a friend" box.

If you want to tell your friends what to search for - you can just tell them to add U201538 to the end of the h2g2 address. For example, h2g2's address is:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/
But your page address is:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U201538

That should be easier than telling your friends to search for Syrpyntys!
