I need some friends!
Posted Aug 15, 2003
OK, the space below has been vacant too long, and it's time to admit that I need some friends.
I know there are people out there who love to talk about music and movies and food and drink as much as I do.
Maybe I should write some more stuff here to give you potentials something to grab on to.
Today it's supposed to be in the mid-90s in D.C. (what's that in centigrade? A quick check of the Entisoft Units Conversion calculator indicates it is: 35 degrees) and with the humidity thrown in they say it will feel like 105 (40 C).
Nothing like there's been in Europe, but still a good day to be grateful that Thursday's Northeast U.S. power blackouts did not hit us in D.C.! I was expecting it to roll on down the East Coast and hit us shortly.
It was scary for the first hour when it seemed like this could be a terrorist thing. I think everyone keeps waiting for something like that to happen, especially here and in New York.
But anyway, the weekend is so close I can see, smell and taste it, and tonight my girl buds are coming over to play rummy. We do that every month. The game is never as important as the yakking (so far we don't even keep score, though we do give out prizes), and it will be fun to see how we evolve over the years. We range in age from 24 or so to early 50s, and in occupation from college professors to a journalist to an Episcopal priest to a financial planner and a biologist.
Tomorrow night we'll fix dinner for friends we met at a wine dinner. Grilled chicken in tarragon-mustard sauce and a plum tart for dessert. Prosecco for an aperatif and either Chilean sauvignon blanc or Australian Riesling (dry!) with dinner.
And so off to lunch.
