How we choose names
Connie L Started conversation Nov 22, 2002
In our familly, there are names that skip one or two generations, and come back again, as first or middle names.
Jean, and Vincent, mostly.
But as a kid, I sometimes worried about having the same name as a great-grand'uncle who had died young at war...
Kids' worries not lasting more than a minute or two, it did not really traumatised me, though.
For me, the main reason why I would consider a name for my kids would be someone I had met in my life (in real, or through reading, etc.), and whom I'd like as a person (like a highschool crush, but not limited to that).
Matthew (Mathieu in French) would be amongst my favorite (not one, but *two* crushes with that name...).
I like Sean a lot too (not only because of Sean Connery, *very* handsome, and the older he gets, the hotter).
I also have a thing for cyrilic names (Sasha), and others of gaelic origin (Amaury).
On the other hands, bad encounters and bad memories would definitely bannish some names out of my list.
Adolf is out, and anything that sounds close (Rodolph, etc.)
Geraldine, although charming, is out too (a very stupid classmate in elementary school !)
