I'm in! I've had a look around (made the tea, fetched the fondant fancies and arranged them nicely, all the things the new boy does ) ...
What's next? Do I jump straight in, or wait till I've got the lay of the land a little more?

It took me a few days to penetrate Yahoo Have they made it less impossible since I joined up?
By all means jump right in. If you'd like me to introduce you to the group, I can certainly do that. Or you can introduce yourself. The P&S ain't very busy right now to be honest. I think it gets quieter around the first Friday of the month (which is when the mining rounds happens... the miners don't make a peep lest I remember they're there and scream at them to get mining ). The UG has lows and highs. You'll get used to that.
Anyhoo, if you want to get started on polishing, I think there's a fairly recent post on the group with all the entries to polish. Usually, you can keep up with the entries that need polishing at U235555. You won't get allocated entries - just jump in whenever you want. The only way to gain experience is by doing some polishing of course
Any questions - I'm here. I love talking about the UG and myself

I already had a yahoo account, so that made it much easier. Mind you, scurrying around trying to find where I'd made a note of my password - that was interesting
Yes, I found U235555 - thanks! I suppose when I post a proposal to polish something, I'll be introducing myself by default so there's no need for any hoohaa (or that initiation ceremony stuff - getoff!)
I suppose what I'm really asking ... well, would it be a good idea for a tyro like myself to cut his teeth on something, er, how shall I put it, that doesn't look like it needs an awful lot of complex negotiation and, to be blunt, work - or is that sort of cherrypicking generally frowned upon?

So I'll introduce you. Sorry, no stopping that - I have to. It's tradition. And initiation is too.
No, absolutely, pick the one best suited to you. That's always been the policy of the UG. It's called the Boots Doctrine. New polishers, or lazy ones, shouldn't necessarily be picking entries to polish that require a lot of consultation and work. Glad you asked that.
I'm off to introduce you.
Key: Complain about this post
