That was great! Did you really do that yourself? very impressed
What sort of poetry do you like then? Anything or is there one style in particular? My favourite is Irish poetry, I studied it for a year or so. Oh and metaphysical poets too, I love Donnes work!
Anyway I'd like to welcome you to h2g2, I'm one of the community Ace's here which means I get to go round and greet new people on the site and help them get to grips with different areas and aspects of the community.
To start with can I suggest you check out this page http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/A559695 made by one of my fellow Ace's, it's full of helpful links which will help settling in here much easier. If theres anything at all you're unsure about then please feel free to ask, I may not always know the answer myself but I'll definitely be able to find someone who will

Thank you Tinkerbell, It's nice to receive a round of applause occasionally, you've brightened up my day up no end, due in no small part no doubt to your new and improved glitteryness.
As to poetry, I have a wide taste with no holds barred, I enjoy in particular seeking out the work of the many unsung wordsmiths who rejoice in such obscure publications as... 'Poetry, Communicating across the Barriers' and many other hidden gems that never reach the popular shelves. Like you, I too have my favourites, one of which is Tennyson, but for myself and for pure relaxation, I like to write poems that are mildly funny, cheer people up and have perhaps an unexpected twist...
I'm having a baby, oh what a joy,
I can tell by the weight it's a big bouncing boy,
But as I sit down to light my last fag,
I can't for the life of me pin-point his dad.
It might have been Peter, Cyril or Fred,
But then Simon and Patrick have slept in my bed,
I've turned out the light holding Bobby so close,
And woke up to Brian with tea and hot toast.
I've been on the town until past 2.00am,
And I've had my pick of the creme de la creme,
All things considered my life's been a whiz,
So I'll just tell them all that the baby is his!
Only joking. Thank you for your welcoming words and your offer of assistance negotiating h2g2, which I think is a wonderful idea. I will be back in touch soon, in the meantime, I will visit the website indicated.

I love that! Thats so great
Theres a poetry society on here somewhere, you should take a look at that, I'll find you the link and post ithere later.
If you're a fan of unsung poets I don't suppose you've ever heard of George William Russell or his pseudonymn Æ? He's my favourite poet of all but is fairly hard to find as most of his works unpublished. He wrote at the same time as Yeats and they were great friends but then had an argument so Yeats vowed that Russell wouldn't be as famous as him, which sadly happened
Anyway, if Tennysons one fo your favourites you should write a guide entry on him sometime, theres not much written about specific p[oets on here, I keep meaning to tackle the Irish poets but never seem to get round to it, h2g2 is a great place to not get round to things

Hello Tinkerbell,
It's me again and I have a question.
I have been experimenting with a short guide entry, I lost the first during editing by accident and somehow (I must have looked away or pressed the wrong key)lost the second too, the third I believe was posted successfully. My question is: what happens if the two unedited versions were stored and in time posted too?
Many Thanks.

Oops sorry for the delay!
Without knowing for sure which key you pressed or what happened to the other 2 I'd say that they're unlikely to reappear. From past experience anything that disappears on here tends to disappear completely, if it did reappear theres always the option to delete any entries that you've written so it wouldn't matter at all
*offers over a as they had an offer on at tesco's*
I think they're supposed to be strawberry jam if you'd like one?

Many thanks, I don't remember which key it was as I was momentarily distracted and when I looked back again the screen was blank, so far there has been sign of either piece, so I guess they've gone for good.
I promise not to make a habit of this, but If you could indulge me one more time? Little fingers got to the mouse and accidently found 'unsubscibe' thereby losing my first three postings, is there any way to restore them?
Thanks again.

It's fine for you to ask lots of questions, it's my job to answer them... I may answer them wrongly but I'll be very convincing at bluffing Besides it makes me feel useful
Sadly as far as I know the only way to subscribe back to the conversations is to find them again, do you know where abouts they were?

Sorry, false alarm! It seems by clicking on the relevent conversation elsewhere, I can get back to them without any trouble.
Thanks for being there.

Yeah as long as you can remember where the conversations are it's fine, the problem is when you accidentally unsubscribe late at night and have absolutely no clue where you were before
