I'm looking forward to working with you on this entry, have you got any plans on how to proceed?

Right I think we need to come up with a structure of how we are going to lay this out. For example we could start off with a famous quote from the series, then go on to explain how Bernard Cornwell came up with the series in 1980 shortly after he went to live in America. Then we need to decide what details of the story we are going to put in.

I would advise against an episode guide, as it would be far too long (and would warrant a guide entry in its own right), and perhaps the list of stories would be sufficient with a brief explination perhaps?

Then we could go on to things like the types of media it has been in : Books, Television, Newspaper and I think it was in Audio as well.

We could then talk about John Tams (Daniel Hagman) came up with a lot of songs for the series.

And then I'm sure theres plenty of other details that I can't think of at the moment to put in.

I don't know if you've any of them but you might want to have a look at these web-sites, as they have a lot of information on Sharpe :

Also I'm afraid I'm going away for three weeks on Saturday, so I'll do as much as I can over the next few days, and then I'll carry on when I come back. I'm sorry to tell you this at such short notice, but I really want to do this entry.

Anyway, what do you think?smiley - erm

It could well be. We could do a brief synopsis of the main characters, and a bit about Sharpe's life (the companion says a bit about after Devil, life w/ Lucille, his kids, death, etc). Do you want to concentrate more on the Literature side (Cornwell, why/when/what he wrote) or the character side?

How about this for a bit of a framework?

Who is Sharpe? (header)

Bit on Cornwell,
Bit on character's background?

Sharpe's Allies and Enemies (header)

Bits on Arthur Wellesley, Patrick Harper, Dan Hagman, Obidaiah Hakeswill, etc.

Sharpe's Adventures (header)

Brief summary of each book/tv episode in chronological (Tiger -> Devil) order.
EG: Sharpe's Waterloo (1812) Book/TV - Sharpe & Harper rejoin Wellington to fight at the decisive battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo. Although the day is won by the allies, "Chosen Man" Daniel Hagman is greivously wounded and dies in Sharpe's arms.

Afterword:
Bits in Sharpe Companion book about his life after war and his eventual death.

What are your thoughts?

That seems a reasonable layout smiley - ok I'll go along with that smiley - ok

I also would prefer to do the aspects of the character, if thats the way you want to do it. What would you prefer?

Yeah, I prefer character over the less interesting literature side

Just wondering whether or not you're back....

And if you know how we can sort out the whole "not being able to edit the entry" deal.

Framework

I'm back now. smiley - ok

I think there are a few ways to get around not being able to edit the entry.

Firstly, we could just post what we want to put in to the entry in to this thread, continue to dicuss it, and then ask to put what we want in to the original entry.

Secondly one of us could Start a new entry, and that way one of us has control of what goes in to the entry, and we can either carry on talking about what we want to put in, in here or we can start a new conversation at the bottom of that entry.

Or thirdly, one of us could set up a new account, and that person gives the other the password, so that it can be used by both people. From there we can either ask one of the itallics to change the rights of the entry to this joint account, and that way we can change what ever we want when ever we want. Though the problem with this is that if one of us makes a change but the other makes a change just after, without knowing the other has changed it, then that change will be overwritten, and ignored. Thats why I'm not sure about this one.

Anyway, what do you think?

Oh and I've just started reading Sharpe's Devil, which seems very interesting. So perhaps that will help me. smiley - smiley

I think that one of us should start off a new entry myself, but I'll leave it up to you to make the final decision.

Happy Birthday! smiley - bubblysmiley - cakesmiley - ok

I've started a conversation in the Sharpe entry, and pasted the framework we were going to use into it.

For the intro, I don't know much about Cornwell himself, but I know plenty about the character.
