God is a comedian, playing to an audience too frightened to laugh.

Not original, but I heard it tonight and simply had to write it down somewhere where more people would read it.
A pleasing French saying I am told, that skirts atheism quite nicely.

Drunken Louts

.... broke my camera jib. Apparently (I'm leaving in half an hour or so to look for myself) a group decided that the 28' (actually 30' in total length with stays to a mast 10' off the ground) camera jib I left lashed to the side of a building Friday night needed disassembling. Violently. The inaptly named security company that was to look after it was 'overwhelmed' by which I guess meant they were on a break.
This appears to be the result of locating my equipment in the middle of a parking lot between the Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Molson Canadian tents which are all beer gardens open until 2:00 AM. On the night in question Bryan Adams was playing in one tent and Bedouin Soundclash was in the other. I don't blame either or their fans.
Not that I blame management. Even though I warned them. Go figure. It was a coincidence. Oh well. No one bled, no one died.

Digital Nation

This is an excellent PBS broadcast-
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/digitalnation/view/
but my thread title is a canard, a ruse, a related but indirectly directed label.
Gentle reader, my parent company is threatening to give me a Blackberry. *Give* is perhaps the word that bears the unkindest cut of all. A Blackberry would in effect make me a digital slave, at their beck and call at all times. I am in fact a salaried employee with set hours of employment, able to freelance occasionally.
My response? *I have a cell phone that you have provided, I leave it on all day, every day I work for you. If you give me an emailable, textable, net savvy digital studded iron neck collar, I will turn it off when I am not working. Including my meal breaks. Bite me.*
Their response has not been encouraging. Luckily the contract I have with them is almost 11 years old and has yet to be renegotiated. Because of an almost inevitable guarantee of an increase in pay rate, the parent company has put off negotiations indefinitely.
What say you?

The calm before the storm.

Twenty two days left to go before the Olympics:
http://www.vancouver2010.com/
...and all the big projects are completed that *absolutely, positively have to be finished before the end of the month!!* Now come the little things that got pushed aside- a prerecorded set of daily looks at the cuisine of some of the countries involved, the talent modeling Olympic wear, preparing the various locations for remote broadcasts. I was downtown yesterday and every conceivable flat space seems to have a giant tent on it for Finland and China and Britain and Belarus and whoever.
I'll be working next to the Molson beer/big screen tent:

Which is OK but I'd rather be next to the Heineken tent:

...but I'll get a free pass for the Hockey House so I can't complain. I'll be operating one of these:

Off and on all day long (with a nicely timed break from 1:00 to 5:00 PM each day)
Drop by and say hi!!
Cheers!

On the menu.
Posted Jan 7, 2010
I've decided to post my evening meal menus for the following week or perhaps more. I fully expect to be roundly criticized along with hearty expressions of approval.
Today:
A pint bottle of Phillips Amnesiac Double IPA, part of which is the marinade of-
A small organic Angus beef steak grilled with pepper, olive oil and beer marinade.
A roasted yam and
Grilled, sliced sprouts a la azahar:

Dessert will likely be half a frozen Eatmore bar.
