Moderators

I have made gentle fun of moderators in conversations but on the whole they have done a remarkable job considering how massive that job is. A consensus from a set of rules is a diffucult thing to achieve, just ask a lawyer or politician. I think if you upset the fewest people possible that is a good definition of democrasy. This democrasy is more difficult than most in that not only is there no voting age limits but no national boundaries as well! Copyright law, different nation's cyber laws, ethics, and morals are all to be considered. On top of that and included *in* that the rules and regulations of the host organisation and country! The fact that generally everyone is happy is a testament to how successful they really are. Now go to *What's Wrong with H2G2 Researchers* to get your *..fair share of abuse..*. Which might be a lyric but isn't....

How to do stuff

I am thoroughly enjoying myself on this site, so much so that my wife just rolls her eyes when I log on knowing that I will be an hour or more. I fully intend to learn about H2G2ML system since I am anything but a programmer and would like to know more. I have some questions however. If I do my page in the dreaded goo which I understand to be HTML, can I include pictures? I have looked around and can't seem to find any so I guess the answer is no. If not, can I leave links to pictures? I have found one link like that to a site I didn't know about that shows personal photo groups. How do I link? If I put the site in '<>' it just shows up as the link, not a shortcut. Is that only doable in the ML? I suppose I'm a bit thick since I should have figured all this out in the rules and help sites but I didn't. Please and thank you.

Cheers!

The Sisters of Mercy

I like the lyrics of Leonard Cohen's songs and in my own way I feel they speak to a part of me. For instance I believe that the sisters of mercy are not departed or gone. They were waiting for me (in the form of poetry or his singing) when I thought that I just can't go on. They brought me their comfort and later they brought me this song (or rather I felt it was sung for me). I hope you run into them (they are easy to find on the web), especially if you've been travelling to long. I further believe that you who must leave everything that you cannot control. Don't you think that it begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul? I feel I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned. When you're not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you've sinned. Well they lay down beside me (metaphorically), I made my confession to them, or in effect myself. If they had touched both my eyes and I had touched the dew on their hem, I would feel that your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn but that they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem. Every time I hear the song I feel like when I left they were sleeping and that I hope you (that is to say others) run into them soon. I like to listen to Leonard Cohen in the dark so I would say- don't turn on the lights, you can read their address by the moon.
And of course since they exist in everyone's individual consciousness you won't make me jealous if I hear that they sweetened your night (or day) because we weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right since we weren't lovers the way you might conceive (and besides it would still be all right).

Leonard Cohen

Since the lyrics of 'The Sisters of Mercy' are freely available on the web <[Unsuitable link removed by Moderator]> I was very surprised to find them yanked from this space with no explaination. They are hardly seditious or pornographic and are just the kind of thing I would like to see more of. Pity.

Welcome!

I found my welcome to the community today from "Candi Nook"! I certainly hope that isn't her real name, it sounds either like a shop where toffee is sold or the stage name of an exotic dancer! She was very nice and extremely helpful. I look forward to 'bumping' into her again on line. Wait a minute, that was gender specific!? "Candi" may not be a female!? Oh, the confusion....
