Religeon
Posted Oct 8, 2003
For part of the 6th year religeous education program, my school organises a retreat whereby half of all the 6th years go to a seminary and basically seem to talk about life in general to a genial priest, with the other half doing the same thing the next week. This lasts from 9:00am the 3:30pm approximately. Those who don't go come into school for a mere two hours and have some sort of other religeon thing, don't know what it is. The two groups switch around the next week. Each of these is just a one-off thing. I am in the second group. Man, is it ever sweet! It's almost better than a day off, because afterwards I can check out the shops and get some Indian cuisine for lunch - two things I do not normally do on days off.

Dark Eldar!

Atari and Deadelvis have started a new game based on warhammer 40,000. Members enter the ranks of the Dark Eldar, basically a race of sadistic hedonists. While experience with the 40K universe is preferred, there are no rules against non players (like me!) joining. the Anumber is A1232803 .

Fascist Bylaws!
Posted Sep 22, 2003
Galway City Council is planning on introducing new bylaws preventing things such as the following:
1)Gatherings. You will have to obtain a liscence to have a gathering, rally, etc. with more than 100 people and will only be allowed to have it in designated areas. The Irish Constitution specifically says that it is the right of every human being to preotes peacefully and without arms, and the new bylaws will prevent that.
2)Leaflets. It will be illegal to hand out leaflets, pamphlets, etc. in any form of protest, but this will not apply to election canvassing papers. eaflets are a vital part of the campaign process for organisatins without much funding, and opposition should not be limited to when there is a general election every six years or so. The UN constitution says it is the right of any individual to free speech and opinion, and these bylaws aim to crush this in Galway. I have signed a petition against them, but I really feel the government should get off their aseses and look into this.

The Leaving Cert
Posted Sep 11, 2003
I meant to post this earlier, but somehow never got around to it. Last week, I started 6th year, the final year of secondary school. When it's done, I have to do the Leaving Certificate, which is the second Irish state exam, done at the end of secondary school. I wish everyone would shut up about t, I mean, I get the point, OK?! Seriously, everyone around me is making a big point about this being the most important exam of my life, and my entire life hinging on this single year, and this makes little sense to me. Why should thirteen yars of schooling boil down to one blasted test? I believe all state exams such as this should be abolished and replaced with a continuous assessment type system, but fat chance of that ever happening.
