Coventry hotspots?

Post 1

My younger son is on the point of accepting an offer from Coventry University. I wonder if there are some areas less desirable than others when considering accommodation location?
Places not good to venture out in late at night kind of thing.

Any useful information gratefuly received!

Well congratulations to the lad - who obviously is a youth of taste and discernment.

The university has revitalised an extremley run down area of Coventry - closed down factories, and former industrial offices - because of this there are some dubious areas nearby.

Most notorious if Hillfields, which is the 'red-light' area of Coventry, there are also some landlords letting in Coventry who are not recommended, but the university is very good about removing these from the recommended list.

All the campus accomodation is close to the City centre with the newer stuff being of a high quality (as campus digs go)

The place most people drink is known as The Cambell, though for some strange reason it has changed it's name - I'll ask my daughter what its called now.

The university provides a list of places NOT to drink - its not big, its not clever, and they are pretty accurate and up to date. Avoid places on the list.

Earlsdon is THE place to get digs, village atmosphere, loads of students, locals mainly university educated and tolerant. Problem is the high cost of staying there, but its where most Warwick students stay.

If he's got any specific questions, my daughters graduating from Coventry this summer, and I can get answers for him.

Well - if he's capable of cooking for himself its a lot cheaper option, and far more flexible. They've been described as "filling" all stew and dumplings type stuff.

The Cambell is now called |The Phoenix.

Yes, he's got accommodation sorted (after quite a few nags to fill in the form) & is now receiving all the 'welcome' stuff.

He was somewhat relieved to discover that his allotted student loan is only for this year & not to cover all three! Too laid back for his own good sometimes smiley - erm
