Melanie (Safka)

Let me say - at this Easter Time - something almost totally irrelevant.(I love it).
Because of the Kaaza Website (free downloading of music,etc) I discovered some songs of Melanie (Safka = "sixties"), that I'd néver heard before(or totally forgotten; who can tell)
She can switch and turn her voice in a marvellous way and can almost switch to different persons (girl, woman, old and sad, childlike,etc).
To me she's the best in her early days (her sadness in songs like "In the hour"/"Left over wine"/"Johnny Boy" was almost "vivid"), although sóme "renewals" of her own songs are O.K.
Her early covers, like Ruby Tuesday (Stones), were great, but new ones like, Evere Breath You Take (STING) can be a joy to listen at.
But - like most of the artists from the sixties - she took it very easy in the seventies and eighties. Even Paul McCartney with WINGS wasn't that much worth of listening at.
In the nineties, however, also Melanie - again,like again many others -polished her talents and when I listen at the song "Save Me" it makes my flesh creep, as she always did when she started in the sixties.
I heard her once live - 1995 - in Amsterdam, where she also introduced her two daughters. She appeared to enjoy the whole thing.

P.S. I always thought, she was born in England!
Not so; it's New York. (1947)
And strangely enough there's no topic about Melanie at h2g2.
