Howdo Loup, hope you is ok!
Was after your translation skills if I am honest smiley - winkeye Ok, smiley - teasmiley - coffeesmiley - redwine or smiley - ale as a bribe then?

Been looking at a 15th Century Treatise in french on the Poleaxe weapon. Title 'Le Jeu de la Hache' which I seem to make a literal tranbslation as 'The play of the axe' but that sounds wrong somehow. Would there be a better translation of 'Le Jeu' although I realise this is old mediaeval but hey, I can but ask smiley - smiley

Hi everyone...smiley - smiley

Still half-asleep so don't expect too much..

I would go more for "the Game"... jouer is to play and le jeu is most of the time the game...

Might make more sense...smiley - biggrin

So, "The game of The Axe"?! or "The Axe's Game"?!

Unless there is a medieval english word for game... Which of course would fit better as it's a medieval game... [the old french word could be "la joute", but i'm quoting from memory there...]

Talk soon...smiley - surfer

Cheers guys. I think 'game' might be a better translation too. The manual is, as said, a fighting manual for use with the Pollaxe from 15th century France, when it would have been a knights or Man at Arms weapon. And skilled sparring between two or more could be seen as a game. A somewhat deadly one, but par for the course fgor th e 15th century!

Might be stretching the translation a bit, but games might even be better as there were more than just one fight... Just a thought...smiley - biggrin

Anyway, all the best.. Glad that i could help...smiley - smiley
