Hi and Thank You, Manda, for the warm welcome and the various links to here and there. Visited most of them and found my vision of the scope of hootoo galaticly expanded. And I always thought the BBC were a bunch of stodgy old curmudgeons given to consuming vast amounts of tea whilst filling rooms with acrid smoke from cheap cigars! (You probably have guessed that I must be from across the pond.)
Given my dismally weak opening comments, (Babelfishmonger?) things can only go up! Hey, today is Thing! Must be a sign.

Hi Babelfishmonger, nice to here from you,I am from this side of the pond and I always thought the same about the BBC,but since I have found hootoo I think a little better of them, (a very little better of them )
How are things over there, have not been over for a year but trying to get there next year (if we can keep out of the pub and save the money,

Well, Hi, Amy. Since getting laid off from my last job in a continuous work cycle of nearly 40 years (Not all with one company though - gasp, and going on the dole - whew,) I find I've had lots of time to muck about on the internet. That's how with a mere smidgen of serendip I happened upon h2g2 and am I glad I did. A haven of sanity and reason in an otherwise out of kilter world, er, universe. Easily putting aside my on-line job searching, I've been spending hours here, ergo, learning about "thingites" and such.
Only one disappointment, though. Try as I might, I cannot get my researcher number to equal "42."
Thanks for your visit. Babelfishmonger

Ah, the Pub, they do tend to be a distraction, don't they? Hope you do manage to put by a little and do make it over. Should you decide to head for sunnier climes, we are located in the city that is conducting "The War on Terror Wherever It is Found!" We live less than five miles from US Central Command (CentCom) which should be something of a comfort, eh? All that security and stuff. Except it's the same place that barely flinched when a 15-year-old piloted a stolen aircraft 1,000 ft above HQ before crashing into the 28th floor of a high-rise bank. And it's the same place that just recently discovered two laptop computers loaded with highly classified materials managed to disappear from a room with a vault like door, alarms, video cameras, armed guards, to which only 35 people had access. That's how things are over here.
Don't Panic! BFM

*how are you getting on yourself *
manda, thanx for asking. A particularly nasty bug got hold of me the other day, resulting in my being flat on my back for seven of the last ten days. Neither eating nor speaking were options due to an oral infection, so I lost twelve pounds during the ordeal. Some heavy-duty antibiotics have me almost back up to speed, now. said stress suppressed my autoimmune system, so I have suspended the job hunting (who'll hire a 60-something, anyway?) to do some things for myself, the one person I've often neglected. The good side to this: day before the bug hit, I picked up "Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" which has the trilogy, plus "Fish" "Young Zaphod" and "Mostly Harmless" in one volume. Got through all 800+ pages between naps and watching CNN.
Cheers, BFM
What do you think of "Brunel?"
Hi Babelfishmonger....
manda1111 Posted Aug 20, 2002
That sounds like a very bug ,you just take it slow and keep on here
as for brunel I dont like it,dont get me wrond I thing some of the new gagets are great and it is going to make it a lot easyer for the newbies, it just I think the look of it is crap, but being a ACE I am going to use it for a while so that I get to know all about it so I can answer any quetions about it ,
By the way if you want to get your Researcher number to add up to 42, you could allways click here >> A530560
