I left California in 1991 and have never regreted it once. I lie in Oregon now although I have traveled extensively all over the world(I.E. Middle East, India, Europe, and South Seas, all over North America including Mexico)
Would not trade Oregon for the rest of the world now. We have our problems but all-in-all it is worth it.
I am a senior at Willamette University the oldest university in the West (1842) it is a small liberal arts school with individual classes sized around 12! A good way to lose those humongous freshman classes of 100's. Although we dont have a great selection of graduate schools (there is only a business school, a law school and a school of education) we are listed in the top 100 schools around the country so a graduate would be welcome in just about any graduate program you may want.
I used to live (you may hardly call it living) in Southern California and the air here in Oregon is clean, water is clean and there is space to live here. The Willamette valley gets around 40 inches of rain a year, green the year round with snow usually, lots of rivers and real mountains.
I have been to Michigan mostly flat but nice. Gets very cold not just snow but lots of snow, and who wants to leave the PAC ten????
So much for an advertisement for Oregon. Good luck hope you enjoy everything.

Sorry. I rarely visit h2g2 since the slight format changes. =]
It's only been four or five years since I left California as a resident. I'm just now starting to feel a little homesick for it. I miss the green and the mist in winter. {sigh}
I haven't seen too much of Oregon. I used to go to a church youth camp in the Siskiyou Mountains near Cave Junction and we spent a week or so on the coast when I was little but that pretty much covers it. Cave Junction . . . odd little burg. =]
Willamette Valley, eh? It sounds nice. Trees and clean air . . . who could ask for a better living environment? Probably desert people. =]
So where have you been in Europe? Some friends of mine and I were planning a trip to England and France this Summer but it looks like it's falling through. Ever been to Africa?
Talk to you later,
Demazed
