Hello and welcome to h2g2 smiley - smiley

I am one of the site's Aces and it is my job to meet and greet new researchers and make sure that they are ok and can find their way around the site.

A page well worth looking at is the <./>Welcome</.> page. Here you can find out some general information about the guide and links to help pages.

May I also suggest visiting the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>. GuideML is the computer language that h2g2 uses, and this page will help you to fill your user space with all sorts of neat stuff smiley - cool

If you are wondering how to make the smiley pictures like smiley - biggrin then click on <./>Smiley</.> which will take you to a page which shows all the smileys.

If you are feeling a bit lost then clicking on <./>DontPanic</.> will take you to the help pages, or feel free to ask me by clicking on the reply button below, and I will do as much as I can to help smiley - ok

Hope that answers any queries you have for the moment.

Tonto smiley - cheers

Well, when I can wrest the mouse away from my daughters...no, I haven't had an opportunity since I signed on til now. My eldest daughter is visiting for the week, and aside from showing me the site ,between she and my younger daughter, there is little free time at the computer. NOT that she is a computer junky, it's just one of her many facinating pasttimes. I am shamefully undereducated concerning The Hitchhiker's Guide books(she has read, and, I dare say ,memorized them all(perhaps even some embarrassing statistics about Adams as well)mostly during her high school years. I do remember listening to some of the first, on "vinyl", in the early seventies, however,I am ashamed to say I remember very little. Though remember enjoying it to some extent. Ascribe whatever meaning to that you will, remembering I am in my 40's(and o.k., I was a flaming freak".My daughter is on this site at Yankee-shoes, or you can find her on the "Thingites".

Thanks for your interest!

I love the Hitchhiker books. I keep re-reading them but never get all the way through them before starting again so I've only read the 5th book twice smiley - erm

smiley - grr the Thingites. You either love them or hate them. A thread I am in had a couple of races with the No No No thread that they have. First to 10,000 and 20,000 posts. It was a lot of fun smiley - biggrin

I shall look up "thingites" and the no no no thread(?).What is meant by a "race"?

Hello from your ACE...

A race as in running race. The first thread to reach 10k postings, and later 20k, won. smiley - smiley

And this is a good thing? Ok,I'd really like to see this conversation. Where would I find this? ( My daughter is gone for the day)

WHat does one do while waiting for a job at a big bank in England? Is there unemployment, or flipping (turning them with a spatula)( just in case there is a problem with semantics) burgers, or living off Mum and Dad? No disrespect, just curiosity.

Well, questions only is here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F63419?thread=100987 and the race is approximately posts 7000 till 11000 and posts 17000 to 21000. The no no no thread is I can't find it, hang on. As for a job, I've worked at a car supermarket for the last 26 months in the admin and finance departments so i'm doing that all summer to get a bit of money It pays quite well too which is

Ahh so. I get it now. Questions. Great fun. My youngest daughter used that game in her performing arts group. Love the tv show'Whose Line is it?" as well.(I am a frustrated actress turned folk singer) I now understand the thingites as well. Thanks!

Glad you are able to stay employed. Is a car supermarket the same as a used car dealership here? Or even a new car dealership?

Change of subject. Are you familiar with any folk music in your area? Or do you hate it?

Tonto

Well, not really, we sell both new and used cars but no cars older than 5 years old. Technically all the cars are used as we buy all of them allready registered but some are brand new. We call ourselves a supermarket because on each of our 4 sites we have at least 1500 to 2000 cars (one of everything) and we advertise that we can get customers finance and the car ready in an hour to drive away with!

And if you had to choose between the thingites and questions only, which would you pick<?>smiley - winkeye

As for folk, it isn't really something I listen to. smiley - erm Actually, i don't really know of any in my area though that might be because I don't listen to it!

From my brief exposure I would definately be questions only.

Do you carry a lot of foreign cars then?

Don't blame you a bit re the folk music. We (my husband and I) are pretty heavily into the humourous sort. He writes a lot of what we do. He really doesn't like the Irish stuff much as it all seems the same sawing away on the fiddle. His favorite memory is of one of the Chieftans at the Border Folk Festival in El Paso, Texas, who was jamming with the guys ( a bunch of cowboy types) and was called to do another set on stage , to which he replied," Excuse me, I've got to go play some more of that fsmiley - bleeping boring Irish music!" Ah memories.

What is the hold up with your job at the big bank, if you don't mind me asking? ( I'm not like, nagging, only curious)

Yay, Questions only smiley - biggrin

By foreign cars, do you mean imports or foreign makes. We have foreign makes but don't sell imported cars.

And the hold up is over today. They told me where I would be placed smiley - biggrin
