There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation Mar 12, 2005
When it's used the way it was in this post F48874?thread=598960&post=6732154#p6732081 it's the online equivalent of calling someone stupid. I think that's pretty damn rude and I will always say so.
Kat made a comment in her post, you queried it - "Seriously?", and I offered some clarification. Even with the presence of "(although not necessarily)" in your post, there's no need for the use of ''

What are you talking about? The laugh was at the repeating of what I'd said which was instead of having another that was meant in a lighthearted manner.

It didn't come across that way to me. Nor does the phrase 'What are you talking about?'

Whenever I feel that someone has acted rudely toward me, I say so. I neither ask for nor expect an explanation or an apology - it's enough for me to speak my mind. If that person doesn't think they've been rude, we just have to agree to disagree and go on our respective ways.

It's nothing to do with forcing views, it's a way of avoiding conflict.
If the other person explains succinctly how they weren't being rude, that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned. If they don't, that's also the end of it as far as I'm concerned - I walk away and forget the whole thing, unless it keeps happening, in which case I stop separating the person from their actions. I no longer see that person as someone who is being rude - I start seeing them as someone who *is* rude by nature.
That happens *very* rarely.

It just seems a very bizarre way to go about things.
It seems such an affront to you to come to my space and tell me yet when it's explained, you say you disagree then walk off into the sunset and makes you look so easily offended. Especially by accepting someone's reasons and yet holding ontothe belief that they've rude when it's down to your own misinterpretation!

I came to your space because this matter is entirely between the two of us and doesn't belong in that PR thread.
But I'm not offended - if I was I'd be demanding an apology. I used to get very offended at all sorts of things but I found that it generally got me nowhere. People in high dudgeon are often a figure of ridicule and rarely get what they want - just look at the debacle between Ken Livingstone and the Jewish journalist. The concensus here at h2g2, which I believe was the same IRL, was that everyone who was calling for Ken's head on a plate were going way over the top.
I much prefer to not get offended, but that doesn't stop me from speaking my mind - I don't stand by with a feckless smile and say 'Oh, that's alright', or ignore something. I'll say what I have to, and afterwards, whether or not it's resolved, I forget about it - the next time I bump into the person in question, it's like it never happened, except - as I mentioned earlier, if that person shows a tendency to do this again and again.
If you say that you used a instead of a just to avoid repetition, then fair enough... but you have to understand that what one person says doesn't always come across as what they meant, unless their language is pinpoint precise.
