Terry's hat

I wouldn't say he wears a cowboy hat. It's more like a fedora. At least it was last time I had a pint with him.

The speech impediment isn't that noticeable either, and I doubt he'd appreciate you banging on about it... smiley - smiley

How many of these people do you know?

It's put in a charming context!

Besides...

1/ I doubt he'll read it.
and
2/ when I've potrayed him in the context of a deity when I'm atheist, written a tribute story, got all the books, written guide entries and is part of The Discworld Cathedral Clergy I fail to see how a slight mention of impediments could be taken as insulting! smiley - biggrin

1/ I'm not sure that matters and

2/ Saying nice things about someone isn't like building up credit in the bank so that you can then go on to say not-quite-so-nice things about them and it not count. Or it shouldn't be. If you ask me. Which you didn't. Okay, I'll shut up now...

I don't really know him that well, we've just had the odd pint together in the bar at SF conventions...

Hm.. Getting drunk with an author... dangerous!

I don't consider that as not-quite-so-nice.
It's in a pro-Pratchett context. There is obviously no inference of insulting. You're the only one to mention it in what might be a year since it's been there.

Johnathon Ross isn't bothered about his 'impediment'

Well, maybe you're right, as somebody with a slight speech impediment myself I'm possibly oversensitive. But I know that there's a big difference between *me* referring to my little vocal quirk and making a joke about it, and somebody else doing it.

Anyway, of all the ways I could choose to describe Terry Pratchett, 'a bloke with a speech impediment' is one of the least useful or illuminating...

I just don't see it as insulting.

I mean I wouldn't put 'one-legged authors' if he had one missing.

I see as just a feature of him that's a bit more there to fulfil the sentence...

I mean there could be an infinite number of bearded authors with fedoras...
