Hi there! And welcome to h2g2. My name is Solnushka and I am one of the volunteer ACEs, which basically means that I flit around greeting new researchers like yourself, spelling really badly in the process and helping out wherever I can.

Wow, that is quite a list of interests smiley - biggrin You should fit right in here! How are you finding Kenya so far? What are you doing out there?

Anyway if you have any questions about this place, please do hit the reply button below and ask away. Go on, you know you want to... Here are a couple of other links in the meantime, but feel free to ignore them if you have already found them. Or just ignore them smiley - winkeye :

Frosty The Snowman

Solnushka,

Thanks for the welcome! I came to Nairobi primarily because the life as a working stiff in the USA was boring. You know, up to work five days a week, drink late on Friday, chace ladies Saturday night. So, now I'm an electronics smuggler in Nairobi with my good friend and Sub GTBacchus (U166086) who is in the art smuggling trade, and occaisionally takes jobs with NGO's doing humanitarian work. As far as describing Nairobi, I am overwhelmed. In short, it is beautiful, corrupt, and the colorful birds are quite nice.

Well that certainly sounds as if you have put yourself beyond bordom's reach, anyhow. Cool. smiley - biggrin I do wholeheartedly approve, though I'm sure the heat would kill me!

The birds do sound tempting, though...

Funny, I thought the heat would be bad too. It's really quite pleasant (65 - 80F daily). The only weird thing is that the weather never changes. I suppose there are worse things . . .

Deary me, you're going to be one of these irritating people who try and tell me that "It's different if it's dry heat, though", aren't you? smiley - winkeye

It ain't dry, and it doesn't make any difference if it is. I guess I just don't consider anything less than 85F to be particularly hot. Of course, it is technically winter here--if that means anything in the tropics. I admit that it is strange to call it winter when the eland, giraffes, zebras, and hartebeest are scampering about in the wildlife refuge just out of town. From the vegetation alone, I'm beginning to think that a children's book author created this on a particularly fey morning. Anyway, I hope you are enjoying whatever cooler climate you are in.

Well we could be dealing with my inability to convert faregnheit to centigrade here... Still, 85 seems awfully high to be a hot threshold to me smiley - biggrin

I must admit, though, that vegetation is not the word that springs to mind when contemplating Africa, though. Dusty savannahs and all that. And I'm sure that has you rolling your eyes at the 'bears on the streets of Moscow style stereotyping smiley - winkeye I know what an eland is (some kind of antelope). What on earth is a hartebeest? Sounds like one of those monstors you get in medeival manuscript illustrations.

It's quite hot here. Gotta be all of, oooh, 25-30 degrees centegrade. It's killing me...
