Opticalillusion- media mynx life would be boring without hiccups

I'm not a student anymore - I graduated in June 2001...by March 2002 I was back working at my old uni...I just love the place even though most of my friends have moved on nowsmiley - smiley.

I *did* study Geology...for 4 long yrs - loved the theory and hated the fieldtrips...this has naturally led me into a job working with statistics and drawing pretty graphssmiley - winkeye

I don't think people will note down everything from the thread...but I know I took to much pointless stuff with me to uni and ended up buuying a lot of extras from charity shops and second hand...it worked out quite cheap in the end - my first computer cost £25 including monitor - it couldn't connect to the internet and it didn't have a cd rom but it was enough to let me write my essays in my room and then use the uni printers/web connnection to polish them up and print outsmiley - ok

oops silly me sorry I didn't realise that you'd graduated I hope you are enjoying what you are doing now

you say you took too much pointless stuff to uni.. well ditto me too I did in my first year am now in my second year and really need to downsize

are you pleased you stuck with it and graduated? or do you think you would have been better off learning the ropes of a job with prospects and working your way up their ladder?

As for the net I spent too much time on the net last academic year the best thing about doing that was coming across here though. I'm amazed at how little your first computer cost I bet you were pleased you had it, even though you had to print off your work at uni.

Very glad I stuck with it - I had a bit of a crisis (basically not being happy with my uni) in my first yr so switched uni and started a slightly different course over again...best thing I ever didsmiley - biggrin.

I personally wasted my time at uni using yahoo chatsmiley - blush...not as bad as it sounds - I met my hubby through it and we're coming up to 7 yrs together soonsmiley - loveblush...I introduced 2 other friends from uni to chat rooms and one dropped out and one left his long term girlfriend for someone he'd met online...felt guilty about that for a while but then the internet is like any other hobby that students have (albeit a lot cheaper) so I can't really be to blame if tey couldn't control it - and I warned them both about the adictiveness...although it's funny I used to go online so I could experiment with my personality and be the person I wanted to be in real life (more confident) - but now I've stopped the pretense and the online me is very similar to the real mesmiley - erm.

As for my job now - I go through periods of hating it and loving it...I love the interesting bits and hate the boring bits...probably like every other job in the world but things always seem worse when it happens to you.

tell me about it yep its definitely an addiction I've talked on a lot of places but this is my favourite as the people are so friendly and they aren't after one thing and you can have decent conversations

I'm glad you feel you made the right choice by changing to another uni etc and graduating... I intend to graduate after my third year not long now aaaargh!!!

I like the idea of meeting my future husband to be online as its something out of the ordinary but who knows what will happen they'll have to catch me first smiley - run congrats smiley - smiley

As for introducing a mate to the net and they ditching their gf ... somethings obviously weren't meant to be ... they may well have broken off anyway without the introduction to the net so you shouldn't blame yourself

my hobby i.e. h2g2 like many others here is actually different to people i know in rl they don't want to dip into online stuff as its not safe ... everythings a risk in life i enjoy this place i'm here to stay they are boring... rant over i thankyou smiley - smiley

I don't like the idea of pretending to be someone you are not (yes i can see the good side in that) because whats wrong with just acting yourself and liars get caught out in the end

As for your job, I'm pleased to see i'm not alone as I like my job one minute and dislike it another too ... but still we must do them for the money ... and i definitely agree with you when you say 'always seems worse when it happens to you'.
