Hang-gliding?

I always wanted to hang-glide....until I realised that you had to learn how to do it (for some reason I just assumed you jumped of a cliff and all would be well)...so I've never done a solo flight. There is also the money factor - I have never been in a position where I could spend £100 on a days tuition.
We went over to florida to wallaby ranch (they do powered launches using microlights to toe the gliders up) where the teaching is all done in tandem flights...but the weather was against me hubby managed 2 mornings of flights out of the 12 we were there and to be honest I chickened out a little at the thought of flying my first flight at 1000 foot
He's moved onto paragliding now (he'd got stuck in a rut with the hang-gliding training and it didn't look likely he would be able to get his club pilots licence within 5-10 yrs with the british weather system)...we're having to experiment with various buggy's for him to sit in with a bit of help from http://www.flyability.org.uk
