Oh, nothing in particular, I just don't always agree so readily. I really love Sartre, you see, and even he thinks his early writing was wrong. The problem was all about how, in his existentialism, it was impossible to have a real relationship with another human. He changed his mind later on, to be more in line with Marxist thought.. and I think that might be more right, though I need to read more.

Existentialism is still really cool, though smiley - smiley

smiley - ok OK, EE, thanks for such a nice friendly reply to an impudent stranger. I think there's lots wrong with existentialism actually, if taken as philosophy and not as a way of (philosophy of) life (which I still think is pretty cool), but I have to stick up for old Jean-Paul, as he has the same birthday as me. (See my PS).

I am always more than happy to talk to impudent strangers - one day they might turn out to be expedient friends smiley - winkeye

That is quite an auspicious birthday to have smiley - biggrin I am a big fan of John Paul, and I especially like his writing style [which many people seem to think I'm mad for]

Yes - it's celebrated all over the world, in different forms, as the summer/winter solstice. I remember being at Stonehenge a couple of midsummers to see the crowds gathering and the druids druiding, just to celebrate the coming of my birthday.

But as to liking Sartre's style - isn't that going a bit far, unless he's better in French? Although his examples and imagery are striking - the waiter in the cafe etc.

Let's just say he's clearer than Heidegger, except perhaps for the latest H. translations.

Nice to meet you,

I know I am mad for liking his writing style smiley - winkeye I read it quite intensively when I was doing my essay on Being with Others, and for some reason I seem to really find him quite intuitive. Well, compared to Kant, who was the other philosopher I was reading at the time smiley - winkeye

Very nice to meet you too smiley - smiley
