Hi there, and welcome to h2g2! I'm fords, one of the Assistant Community Editors (official meeters and greeters) and a Guru (helpers of all queries technical) and I'd like to welcome you to the wonderful world of 'hootoo'.
First up, your Personal Space. Use this to introduce yourself to the community and share your musings. You can have whatever you like on your space, within reason of course - - and the best way to do this is to use GuideML. GuideML is very much like HTML/XML, and is very easy to use. If you click on the link you will be taken to the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>, which will prove to be very useful!
Secondly, interesting places to go. On my own Personal Space (which you can get to by clicking on my name above) I have compiled a list of useful links to get newbies started, as well as other lovely clubs and suchlike I like to frequent. Also, on your Personal Space there is the Journal facility, which then frees up the rest of the page for anything else you might like to show the community.
Any questions? Don't Panic! Simply reply to this here message and I will be more than happy to help.
Above all, enjoy the site!
welcome!

how do i search through other peoples personal spaces? or can i? i had wondered if there werent a few other people i may have a thing or two in common with around here ;b
and im really not in understanding of how all of this works quite yet. i plan to visit your space and see these helpful newbie links you speak of. but i have one question that i want to ask here. if i want to invite a friend to view my web journal, what link do i send to them? will they be able to access my personal space if they are not members of h2g2? get back to me whenever you can. thanks for noticing me!

The best way to find people who have things in common with you is to visit the many clubs and societies round here. There is a list of them all at A660304. Then, just join in on the message threads and I'm sure you'll find someone!
You certainly can invite your friends to see your web journal. The best way to do this is simply to send them the link to your user space - if your friend is signed up to h2g2 or any of the other DNA sites s/he will be able to post to it too (you are also automatically signed up to the other DNA sites). If not, they can only look.

welcome!
