Just two weeks till the scheduled move date! We're to call the building manager next Friday and arrange to meet and pick up the keys next weekend.
I had an estimator from the moving company come out and take a physical inventory, so they can make sure they have the right sized truck and the right number of men. (Also hopefully their office people can get the city out with No Parking signs for in front- no one from Streets & Sanitation ever called me back)
K and I have dragged out and put aside a number of items to donate to charity, and a truck is coming in the morning to pick it all up. It's enough to fill a decent sized storage unit. We can start out with a little less clutter- and I'll have less of a struggle with over-full kitchen cabinets.
We've got about 30 boxes packed, which I'd like to think is somewhere between 1/3- 1/2 complete. I suspect that there will be a minimum of two boxes marked "misc" where all the random bits that got missed will end up.
Plan is to hand-carry a couple boxes of very fragile glasses and knick-knacks, my small house plants, the TV and the PC. Possibly the Dyson, not sure. Oh, and the cats, of course.
The cats were at first intrigued and amused by all the boxes, and Herman kept crawling into boxes of stuff before we'd gotten them taped shut. Silly cat. Now they're mostly trying to stay out of the fray.
This is really not fun, and I hope not to have to do it again for a very long time. Keep fingers crossed the management at the new building maintain things well and we won't be moving again when the dishwasher/ dryer/ furnace/ etc malfunctions.
It's exhausting!! I will be so happy in a couple of weeks when everything is IN. Unpacking can be done a little more gradually- we won't even be unpacking any books, movies or CDs until we've bought and received delivery of some new bookcases.

That sounds like a well planned and prepared move! You'll be fine, I'm sure. Last time we moved, we had a toddler of 11 months and a small child of under four. And then the flat wasn't finished on moving-in date! That was a logistical nightmare.

Oh... and I amazed at how much this is actually going to cost. And how much work it is! I swear that unless this place turns out to be another hellhole with maintenance / noise issues, I am never moving again until I die.
I'm glad we got that estimator in or we would've had issues. Based on cubit footage, the revised estimate is four men, 10 hours, two trips (or two trucks) and $1,500 (for two trips- $1,600 for two trucks). As for packing... we ran out of boxes yesterday late afternoon and I think we are just about half done, maybe a little more or less. It's hard to gauge.
Herman the cat has been underfoot as much as possible. Yesterday he was walking on my bubble wrap, making some of the bubbles pop. And pretty much any time you go to put something in a box, you see the bottom half of Herman sticking out of it. Minerva, on the other hand, for someone who is normally such a pest, has decided she's not interested in playing Flat Cat and has kept herself fairly well out of the way.
We managed about 40 boxes over the weekend and I am exhausted and sore!!

Parking permit reserved... hopefully the neighbors heed the signs and we won't need to tow anyone. Though I guess if we do, it's not like we're not leaving anyway. At the new place we need to load in through the alley, so permits are a non-issue.
No boxes packed last night, as we'd run out Sunday, but K brought some home last night and I can put things into those when I get home.
I am so ready for this to be OVER.

My in-laws are coming Saturday afternoon to help box things up. K and I are going in the morning to purchase a shower curtain rod and liner and then meet the building manager to pick up keys. Saturday is K's 40th birthday, so his mom is bringing a cake and I guess we will be having dinner at some point. I'll appreciate the extra hands- four people can do more work in one afternoon than two.

Almost there. Please keep appendages crossed it does not rain on Sunday...

Are you all situated?
I actually like the decorating part of moving.
BUT that's easy for me to say , it's been a long while now.
Hope your new home is in peaceful surroundings.
Good Luck PC

I missed coming back to this.
We're in... not entirely unpacked, though. We're waiting for some bookcases to be delivered so we can unpack the many boxes of books, CDs, records and movies.
I'm anxious to get it done, because someone neglected to write down which boxes they put my rice cooker and bamboo steamer in. Also because it will look nicer to have a room full of books as opposed to a room full of boxes. And it sucks being in the mood to watch a movie and not knowing which specific box of DVDs it is in...
As for settling, it's nice so far. We're enjoying having working a/c and appliances, and the extra space. Everyone can get in and out of bed now without having to clamber over someone else.

It's hopefully going to be- and remain- more organized than my old place. My husband has a knack for thwarting my organization. And is genuinely surprised and put upon when I become annoyed about it. What, is he new?
