nonono of course not
you can never be too rich, too thin or have too many books
(I only really agree with one of those statements)

I really need to do a book cull, though, much as it pains me.
I get a fair few books from Oxfam, though, so I suppose I can give them straight back - that way they can double their money. The only thing is I don't like giving them back to the shops I go into regularly, because then when I go in looking for books, I'll only find the books I've just given them.

How about I send you a "lucky dip"?
But yeah, I don't mind sending them to anyone who wants them. Any favoured writers, styles, genres?

I read everythng. Especially biographies, autobiographies and historical stuff.

Oh No! Psychocandy's back!
Let's not mention the fact that we were using her journal as an ebay substitute. She won't notice.

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Jul 4, 2010
I am currently looking at an interesting book called "Adventure Stories of the World's Famous Explorers" from the 1970s. It includes a larger section on the history of bananas than on any of the explorers. And waxes lyrical on the fact that humans expanded their knowledge of the world from Europe outwards despite the threat of encountering "beasts and barbarians". Some of the latter even "welcomed them not with gifts and greetings, but with stones and spears!"
It is also obviously intended for children, but because "the pictures are as authentic as our knowledge of those far-off days can make them", it includes some very busty, very under-clothed, and strangely pale Egyptian ladies.
Anyone interested?

Also an excellent illustration of some Phoenicians sailors armed with pitchforks battling a gorilla.

Mal, Engage guerilla sub-ed, and stop using phrases like "wax lyrical". Superlatives should be used verrrry, very rarely. As you know.

Hmm. I'd join in the bookswapping but for two reasons: I have no more room and I suspect I'd be embarrassed by my reading choices. Of course, I'm only getting rid of the carp and keeping the good stuff, but still. One cannot be too careful with ones literary reputation...

Well, my mother's memorial service was Sunday (it was in FL so I wasn't there) and K starts his new job in about 15 minutes.
But of course our air conditioning crapped out over the weekend, which is typical since it was well into the upper 90s and a holiday weekend. Hopefully the landlord can get someone to work on it today. It's been miserable sleeping in an 80-degree house the last couple of nights. Especially as the cats postion themselves at the foot of the bed between us and the fan, for Maximum Kitty Cooling.
Key: Complain about this post
