Earlier today, an old friend sent me an email at my work addy, with photos of a kitten in need of a new home. I get a lot of these, but this kitten is particularly cute. I talked to K, I talked to the kitten's owner... and on Saturday she's dropping the kitten off with us, where she will live (barring any serious issues between Herman and kitten).

We've decided to name her Sylvia. She's between 6-8 weeks and too cute!

Here are the photos that were sent me of the kitten in her current home:

I'll upload more once she's "home". smiley - biggrin

Ooooh! smiley - loveblush

We had dozens of barn cats when I was a child, and there were four or five nearly identical grey ones who would follow us everywhere. If she's anything like them, she'll be a wonderful kittycat!

My first kitty cat was a Russian Blue, a similar color gray to this one. He was such a sweetie. The kitten's owner says she is very sweet, cuddly and playful. They have a little girl who I saw in another photo (which I did not save or upload, albeit cute, as it is not my kid) holding the kitten in a half-nelson, and kitten looks to be enjoying it. smiley - laugh

Hopefully with Herman, who can't jump or climb well, as an example, she won't leap onto counters and tables, etc. Kittens can be mischievous! but I'm sure they will get along great and amuse each other all day long so everyone can sleep at night. smiley - winkeye

Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

Aw, very cute indeed. Of the three cats hanging around our balcony, the two girls have a similar colour; they're older now, and very beautiful.

I think if I ever get a female Russian Blue cat, I'll name her Akhmatova. I mean, she's Russian, she's smiley - blue, it's a perfect fit!

I kinda dislike the use of the word 'kitteh', though. While the 'I Can Has Cheezburger' site is a wonderful guilty pleasure for me, I am always slightly annoyed that ridiculous 'lolspeak' of theirs; the pictures can be just as funny and cute when using conventional spelling.
So I will pretend you wrote 'kitten', and not 'kitteh', and that will prevent me from bugging you with any more boring spelling remarks. smiley - biggrin Deal?

smiley - envy I wish I could have a cat. It's been far too long. Mind you, I never sought out a cat; our last one just moved in one day and stayed for 15 years.

Sho - employed again!

Oh kittens are so lovely - but so much work! Mind you, I'm glad we invested the time in Pippin the Wonder Cat when he was tiny because he's a real people-cat and cuddles up in the evening (he seems to take it in turns who he sits on, spreading the Pippin-lurve)

I'm looking forward to hearing how she gets on with Herman!

We always thought that Joey, the big shelter rescue cat was chasing Morris, the little tomcat - until we saw that at the end of the garden, they turn around and Morris chases Joey smiley - laugh

Hahaha!

Herman spreads his love a bit, but obviously K gets a bit more because they've known each other longer and it's such a habit for Herman to be in K's business all the time.

Once we get her back home from the vet tomorrow afternoon, we'll see how it all works out, and I'll get some photos and upload them. Provided no one fights. We'll probably shut her in the bathroom while we're at work for a week or two just because she is so small, until we see how well they get along.

Apparently she's playful and cuddly and was fine around dogs, so I don't imagine there'll be issues on her part, and Herman was fine with other cats in the past (when K lived alone, he brought home a cat a friend couldn't take when she moved, and when K lived with his old roommates before moving in here, they had two bitchy female cats and Herman took that just fine, too).

Congrats to the new cat, PC! smiley - hug She's just adorable.

You said the other day that your landlord only allowed one cat... hope s/he changed their mind.

Being the devil's advocate here... 6-8 weeks is far too early to take a kitten from the cat mum. I've been learned a kitten needs it's mum until 12-13 weeks to get socialized and learn to be cat. Sometimes rescues can be younger, and a foster mum, even if not a nursing foster mum, can be of help. Guess Herman will be that.

Anyway, smiley - goodluck and hope everything turns out well.

Her Supreme Catesty has not been all welcoming when the number of cats increase in the Lair. It usually takes a week or two before she accepts the newcomer, regardless if it's a kitten or a grown cat.

Well, if Herman really dislikes her, we will return her to her current owner and one of the many other parties who were interested in adopting her may do so. I won't force it. But she is a cutie, and we've been thinking a playmate might give him something to do when we're not around. But he's over eight years old, so if he's very set in his ways, we will force neither Herman nor kitten to live in uncomfortable circumstances. I won't be that selfish.

Oh- I've heard that kittens shouldn't be taken from their mother that young, but this kitten apparently has been. The current owner doesn't own the mother, or any other cats; the reason they can't keep her is because the husband is apparently allergic. The current owner hasn't gotten her any shots yet- we will get her the first round today, and Herman is healthy so provided kitten doesn't have FIV or FLV, which we will ask the vet to check for, there shouldn't be any health concerns. If she has something contagious I will call the current owner immediately and tell her we cannot have her here because of that, and the lady has already said she will come take her back.

The current owner had been bottle feeding her. If I need to do so for a few more weeks, I will. We'll ask the vet.

Thanks for mentioning that concern. I do hope that Herman can help her learn to be a cat (maybe she can teach him not to be so dim smiley - laugh) and we can make her feel safe and secure.

Yesterday we picked up a separate smaller scratching box, since Herman likes to sit on his so much. That way she can scratch, too, without trespassing on Herman's. A second litterbox has been placed in the bathroom, and I've got cat odor remover ready in case of any accidents.

I promise- if she doesn't seem to be settling well or exhibits any signs of distress, we will immediately ask the current owner to take her back. But she's been away from her mother for at least 2-3 weeks at this point already- we're not taking her away from her mum!
