Neither could I. I don't know how they do it. I still watch lots of Law and Order SVU, and Court TV. It nearly always makes me cry.

No justice, no reason, no voice; might = right it seems;
We seem (horrifyingly) to be in rather a minority on this one.

Hello again Psychocandy, Terri, Mikey, Kaz and anyone else!
Some bits of the world can be really sucky, all right. I have my problems, but overall I think I'm pretty fortunate. I really want to do what I can to help others but as well I think certain jobs are not for me. One job I also would not be able to do in a million years is the job that my sister does ... she's a medical doctor. She's seen some pretty horrible stuff down here.
Another extremely sucky job is trying to be an honest cop here in South Africa.
But anyways.
I'd like to chat more with those of you who would like to chat! I've not done that much yet, but a while ago I had MSN messenger. Should I get it again?

zendevil Posted Apr 18, 2004
OOh, yes, do Willem! So long as it doesn't interfere with the rest of your computer functions of course. Plus, if you are on dial-up connection, it is very easy to run up lots of hours chatting! But it's obviously cheaper than phoning the other side of the world.
If you do decide to get it, my MSN address is:
terriandyoda (all one word) at hotmail dot com.
*waves at PC, hopes she isn't exhausting herself with all this overtime, but realises why it's necessary*

Hiya Willem!
If you do decide to use MSN messener again, my handle is belladonna_23 at hotmail dot com.
I'm with you about not being able to handle being a medical doctor. Not that I could ever have made it through medical school! One of my old friends was an trauma unit nurse in the ER at a hospital in a very rough neighborhood, it surely seemed to depress her.
Terri, if you pop back on, I've only just gotten up. I'm going to have a shower and head out to the grocery shortly, and will check back here when I'm through with that. I can phone you for a bit, after that- if the long distance goes through properly it doesn't affect my regular phone service, which is the one that currently needs sorting out. I MUST call them Monday and pay the bts I'm not disputing, don't need a disconnection right now.

Hello Terri and Psychocandy! I just tried to download MSN messenger but something went wrong! I'll try again ... I wonder what's the problem?!
Boring ramble!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Apr 18, 2004
Stupid computers, something's always going wrong. I've heard that it's a good idea, when downloading actual programs, to close all other browser windows and deactivate the virus scan. The virus scan can selectively isolate program files and they might not be installed. It would certainly be cool to have a chat with you in real time one of these days!

Willem Posted Apr 18, 2004
Hmmm ... I'll just keep trying, I also would like to chat in real-time. Maybe someday I'll go online and do nothing but trying to download MSN messenger. Today, however, I'm doing lots of other stuff as well...

psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Apr 18, 2004
Yeah I'm doing lots of stuff today too. Talked with Terri this morning and have been IM-ing with JEllen this afternoon, been to the grocery store and to the thrift store (totally hit paydirt- found 3 pairs of jeans, a half dozen flannel shirts, a pair of flannel pants, and a black courderoy shirt, as well as a couple of books and a nifty jewelry box), did some laundry, got the house semi-tidy.
Just now I'm chilling out with some really cheap wine (you know the stuff, crap so cheap, it's got a twist-off cap! ), too many cigarettes, a bottle of Bacardi 151 (hey, the shit's so stiff, it's FLAMMABLE!!), and am listening to "Zen Arcade" at an absolutely ear-splitting volume & decibel level. God, this is one of the best albums, ever, hands down. Some days, soft and mellow is what I need, but today fast, loud and angry is where it's at.

Okay, now Killing Joke is on, equally as loudly, and definitely a pick-me-up. It's amazing how some good tunes and 150-proof rum can put things into perspective. Also how many things a person can feel all at once...
I'm sitting here this afternoon, torn between feeling happy at how well I'm doing overall, and how much better I think I ought to be doing. Here I sit, nearly 32 years old (only a few weeks off, argh!), donned in ripped jeans, an ancient (but well-maintained) Dead Kennedys t-shirt, old Chuck Taylors and a do-rag... living in a lovely flat I can't really afford, decorated with a hodge-podge mix of cheap Eastern objects d'arte, castoff furnishings, and garage sale chic, clutter, books and movies everywhere, getting drunk off my ass and playing my tunes way too loud on a Sunday afternoon, wishing for more free time but not knowing what I'd actually *do* with it if I had it. No, I don't measure success in terms of financial worth or material possessions, but at times it seems the only thing I ever succeed at is being a f**kup.
Anyway, it's about dinner time here. I'm not really hungry, so I'll probably forego food in lieu of watching this other DVD I've rented. I also purchased a DVD of Dementia 13, a great old Coppola horror flick, it's really cool. Only a few hours left till I've got to sack out, and I've still got laundry to do and this place isn't quite clean yet. Argh!
'Nuff grumping and whining for now, off to enjoy a bit more of this rum (note to self, don't light a cigarette immediately after having a hit off this bottle again, it ignites!) and the movie before the day is gone. See you all here and there during the next week, when I can, and next Sunday when I've got the whole day to f**k off. Ciao!

NO WAY are you a fuckup!!!!
Dear me, if you are, what the hell am I? I am 48, been married 3 times, wearing stuff that most hobo's wouldn't be seen dead in, living in what is officially a slum....BUT i ain't giving up...today anyway, tomorrow's maybe a different story!
It's people like you that keep me keeping on; i hope i do the same for you.
Music: yes! Hath charms to soothe the savage b(r?)east & all that, definitely! Jamming with my mates today was great fun, listening to Robert Palmer (RIP) right now, having spent all day exploring P's Led Zep collection.

Yes, ma'am, you most certainly do the same for me. Life, which ain't so bad, really, all things considred, is all the richer and better for having friends like you, and Kaz, and JEllen, and others.
I don't think you're a fuckup at all, my dear. I guess it's just easier to see the good in others sometimes than in yourself. Right now I'm kind of feeling like an asshole.
Thanks for being here and for being such a good and loving friend. And for letting me do the same!
*tips *
Here's to perhaps someday seeing Greece!
One lives in hope. It's what one does best, I think.

PS- Am currently listening to They Might Be Giants... a bit more perky and a lot less angry. I don't like to let the sun set on anger or frustration or any negative feelings at all. Life's too short for that shit.

just sent you some Robert Palmer lyrics; he was() such a great one with words, music & image, yet was such an incredibly & guy, this line always makes me go gooey:
"You came upon me like a landslide
and once in a while I get taken like that...and I like it!"

Meh. I think I'm okay, under the circumstances. Although it sems no matter now much of this stuff I drink I can't get drunk enough to dull all this shit.
I'm *not* going to break down and cry, though. Well, mebbe just a little bit.
But that doesn't mean I'm not okay, love. I'll pull through. This time it's not shit from the past that's hurting me so much, it's what's going down in the present. I think that's something, for whatever it's worth.
Okay, you'll have to excuse me now. I'm finally about to go have that cry I've been postponing all week. I'll be back once I've pulled myself back together. Off to listen to some melancholy tunes... see you soon.
you
