Minor dilemma, input requested!
psychocandy-moderation team leader Posted Nov 8, 2005
Hmm, I haven't done "frocks & Docs" in several years... dunno if I'd get past the maitre d'.
I'll mull all of this over for a few days, factor in the out-too-late-on-a-school-night aspect and the dressy clothes bit, and will let you all know what I've decided.
All of this stressing has resulted in the need for Serious Retail Therapy... what my dear Uncle Jim refers to as "Severe Shopping".
Against the advice of our Edward, I sprung for two Franz Ferdinand CDs (I traded in some other stuff I didn't want) and a Swell Maps CD, and a DVD of "Eerie Midnight Horror Show", at the Planet of Sound (which was nice, we got to hang around and chit-chat a bit with one of K's old coworkers and buddies there, one of the Smoking Popes who Jesus didn't want for a sunbeam). Also found used copies of two Epperley CDs and a "best of" Box Tops CD, at $10.50 for all three.
Got Herman a fuzzy toy mouse (which now has a large bald patch) and some catnip. He's been staggering around, stoned out of his fuzzy little gourd, all evening.
All is well, and I think we've decided to go without the free dinner, simply because it'd be much too late a night out. And I think I might have the perfect excuse, since I need to see my doctor to have a prescription renewed before it cools off and we start getting snow.

It's funny how it works on some cats and not others, and then at different times. My little black fluffy cat ignores the catnip bush most of the time, but on some occasions, she will roll it into the ground. The other cat, I have to crush a leaf and then he'll sniff it ecstatically ...
Now I'm not sure: PC are you going or not?? At least wear a pair of Sid Vicious undies or something subversive if you do ...

Wouldn't that be a bit draughty?

You guys are so naughty!!
I'm leaning toward "no", not because of the temps thing but because of the late-night aspect. If it were on a Friday evening, it'd be fine. As it is, I'd have to have K drive downtown, pay for parking in my building (minimum $17), run my dressy clothes up to me, change quickly in the tiny ladies' room, then rush over to the Westin and find parking again (another minimum $17) all within one hour, if we want to make it in time for dinner. Then we'd have to sneak out once the entertainment began.
At this point, I'd prefer not to go!

Further to the *original* issue, here's an update, of sorts:
This afternoon, I was speaking with a full-time employee who is leaving after today. One of the temps-to-hire was supposed to take over for her, and had originally been invited to the company's holiday party.
She'd accepted the position contingent upon a pay increase... and the company rescinded the offer. And then "un-invited" her to the holiday party as well. And while she's trying not to act like she cares, she admitted to me that she's quite hurt.
She and the girl she is replacing are having dinner themselves that evening, in lieu of the party. They've invited me along. What do you think now?

Oh, and incidentally, remember that position I'd interviewed for, that they decided not to hire anyone for? They were going to distribute the workload evenly amongst other employees in the department?
Aside from handling the corporate telephone accounts, which went to a woman in the cash management department, *all* of those additional responsibilities have been added to mine. With no change in status or pay.

Oh big-time! ...hopefully that'll be one of the evenings surprises-that party@The Westin-they'll announce that you'll receive a raise (one can always hope!)

If I were you, I'd have a terrible migraine that evening, or have to take the cat to the vet, or something.

That Is another way to go Ivan...definitely worth considering, I suppose!

Good ideas both, Ivan... I am prone to migraines for real, and the cat is really due for some shots. Both sound like excellent excuses.
I'm glad to know that I'm not over-reacting by feeling .

Herman. Has to be Herman. Up till 10 minutes before, you were all set for it, but ; the poor fella tried to jump off the sofa & into the plantpot, failed specacularly, skidded across the floor on his bum & smashed into the door; who knows what internal injuries he may have suffered?
You have to get him to the vet. You were supposed to be letting Great Auntie Terri cat sit, but how can you inflict this on a disabled old lady who has flown halfway across the world to see you?
*sigh* it's just one of those things. Next year maybe?

Terri, have you got a camera on our cat when we're not home??

Well, that mob sound like employers all the world over ... out to screw every last bit of work out of as few employess as possible. I'd definitely do something like fall off my platforms at work, get the car clamped or get K to callyou just as you're leaving (on the night of this darned 'do') with some "feline emergency" necessitating immediate treatment and your attendance. Then go home and watch those new DVD's with a take away Mexican and a bottle of wine perhaps. Then you can go to work the next day and complain about how expensive vets are (well, they are, you don't have to have a bill in front of you to know that ... it's not REALLY a lie, more like a little sin of omission ... ).
Just a thought.

But of course i have a camera trained upon you all the time, how do you think i amuse myself when i'm not on here?
I must say i thought what you did the other night was very imaginative, i didn't realise that orange chair could take that sort of thing.
