Have you ever lived in Dorset? I only ask because of the name you use. I lived in Dorset for many years, 2 years on a bleak island. There is a place called Fortuneswell on that island. I had some friends who lived there. smiley - biggrin

you have to understand that I am orginally from Yorkshire and nothing is bleaker than here in the winter smiley - biggrin


It snowed once on Portland, only a little bit and it brought everything to a standstill smiley - laugh


Oh and I can remember going into weymouth one night for a drink, only to discover that night that the causeway had flooded and I couldn't get back home again smiley - laugh

Aahhh yes, i guess Portland is tame compared to Yorkshire.
I trudged through a foot of snow to get to the bus stop for work, only to discover in Weymouth there was'nt any! smiley - yikes
I take it you lived in Fortuneswell? I was over the top near Easton.
Originally i lived in Wyke-Regis, where my folks lived till they passed away. I havent been back to Weymouth since.

No, i moved to Essex in 1980. I've been here ever since. I used to go back every year to visit the folks. Weymouth changed quite a bit, but Portland is still the same.
Have you ever been back?

Long enough to pick up the local dialect then eh! I had to lose it when i moved here, no one could understand me smiley - erm I suppose as i went to school there i slipped into the accent without realising. smiley - weird

smiley - laugh not really takes some shifting the old yorkshire accent, When I first moved down there it was a bit of a pain

noone could understand me and I couldn't understand them smiley - laugh
