Good Evening Cal (my time.) I joined H2G2 five weeks ago and you offered your help as an ACE. At the time I was learning to use this computer beast thing and declined. Now I am getting the hang of the machine and the concept of it but have reached the stage where I need assistance. If you have some time I would appreciate some advice. I have offered to write an entry to the guide but don't actually Know enough about this machine to be able to record my research results as I find them. I am sure(ish) I can sort this for myself but equally sure that help is now something I should ask for.

Good morning Cal I am just about to head to work for the day, but, before I go.
I have been looking at the entries in the guide and see they best of them seem to be using GuideML. I have started reading the guides on this but they don't really explain the use of it in terms I follow. As an example a researcher will reference a link(www. etc) it appears in blue and can be used as a link. Can you write that for me in plain text so I can see the format.
I think that will get me started. But would also like some advice on how a researcher would store their references for access during production. I can imagine myself writing notes on paper before returning to my own document and sure there is a much better way.
I am not asking for a complete course in using my computer so if the scale of info I am asking is that great just tell me so and I'll go pay someone to teach me but a couple of pointers would be great.
PART 2
Due to my rather unorthodox method of connecting to the 'net I couldn't do this tis morning so I have now answered 2 of the questions I was going to ask you. That leaves GuideML. If you can help with that.>smiley - cheers

ok if you are going to use guide ml in an entry you must Make sure that you have changed the style of the entry from plain text to guide ml, you do this by clicking the guide ml radio button (once you have opened up your entry) and clicking the "change style" tab. This will provide you with the following guide ml tags

are called opening tags, your work must go directly underneath these tags

are closing tags you work must be typed in BEFORE thease tags.

Thats the basics. Links are a little more complicated there are dond as follows:

A link to another h2g2 page Type here what you want to appear in your document "click here" for example

A link to an outside wedside Type here what you want to appear in your document "click here" for example

A link to another researcher Type here the researchers name

Just in case you have found this very very confusing, here is a page that I have found useful in the past A1123354

Come back to me if you need further help or are still not sure,
