Turin brakes - yes, I'll give it a go sometime.
The white stripes album you are after is actually their 3rd
Should get them off this week.

excellant...if white stripes hits the button...may need more..we'll see - cheers for getting them together..I'm being a bit slack, but I'll have to get blanks this week sometime, which gives me the weekend....
I have both the Turin Brakes...if you're interested. A bit ballady, but essentially good music with the odd visit to a hard edge (poofs compared to your hard-core punk...personally I rate them among the better bands of recent years...be interesting to see what you think...)
BTW - where do you stand on COLDPLAY?
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 12, 2003
I think I would like Coldplay but due to the radio at work being on all the time, the singles get played every hour until I want to slam the piano lid on the singers fingers.
When songs stop being released from the album, maybe I could start to listen then!
Have you got the new Flaming Lips album?
I have some Mercury Rev if you are interested.

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 12, 2003
never heard Merc Rev or Flaming Lips..interesting?
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 12, 2003
I hoped that you would have the Flaming lips!
M. Rev - hard to describe ..I'm thinking of doing a compilation for you with stuff you might like.

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 12, 2003
m.rev comp..sounds cool sometime
lips, sorry no dice mate...haven't heard them.
thinking about it...would you prefer Turin Brakes over Janis or Link Wray? I'm getting really into the new album - I could do a comp of the rockier bits of the two albums if you like?
(I listened to the Link Wray again the other night and to be honest it's ok....but I couldn't help thinking you'd want him to speed up a bit...)?? just a thought....

superdogmonkey Posted Mar 12, 2003
Yeah, scrub L. Wray, keep Janis and a Turin brakes comp. would be great.
My compilation was going to be stuff I think you may like:
M. Rev
Sabres of Paradise
Some heavy dub
Newer Bowie
Electric N. Young etc
Sounds ok?

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 12, 2003
that's an excellant plan - then I can get choosin the bit's I'd be into hearing more of....
an inspired idea...
It crossed my mind that after Janis and TB...I could put together a comp of the better Coldplay album tracks (cut out the singles you're sick of) sometime?

I don't think I am ready for Coldplay yet. The nervous tic in the corner of my eye is still there and the pills I am taking have not yet calmed me down. I should be getting some blanks today so will record your stuff over the weekend and post on Monday.
or maybe tuesday.
ohhhhhhhhhhh, check your email. There is something there to excite the stalker that lurks within!
Infant advice please - spender has suddenly gone off food that she previously loved. Has she become bored with it or is it some sort of fad, where she will refuse everything?
Should we give her a replacement meal or will this lead to her thinking she can always have an alternative?
Any advice would be helpful.
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 13, 2003
ok..I'll hold back on the Coldplay...I understand...I'm blessed with not having Radio 1 at work (I'm no snob, it's just the repetition would send me round the twist)...although suffering the f**king archers is bad enough (headphones go on as soon as woman's hour starts..and don't come off until well after the f**king archers)...
infant advice....hard to say without knowing her habits, but minidugdog does the same even now - (and he's 5..although I suspect it's more to do with what toy comes with the cereal!)
I think they do get a bit bored...as long as she's not refusing everything I'd say keep it as varied as possible - figure out alot of stuff she'll eat then you've got a wide pallette to choose from.
I'd suggest it's worth thinking about texture as well as taste - when they are that sort of age (18months ish??) finger tips and mouths are pretty much the way they explore the world....so try a variety of smooth and crunchy stuff....also I guess she might start teething soonish..and those little teeth do start wierding them out a bit.........cutting carrotts lengthways and letting her get her mits on them might do crunchy, food and gum soothing.....??
as far as the psychological implications of just giving her a replacement meal...well, from personal experience, I'd say that was tricky...I'd say going to the trouble of a full-on replacement is pandering and you can guarantee she'll start taking the piss sooner or later...I'd say whip the meal away and give her a smaller snack of fruit or yoghurt...then she'll start to realise that what she gets in the first place is all that's coming....
The thing to remember is that kids are animals - they will not starve themselves - if they are hungry they will eat...sooner or later...maybe hold onto the meal until she's hungry then warm it up later...
minidugdog was playing up once and I whipped the food into the kitchen , mashed it up and brought it back and he was fine....
having said that - whatver you do - try not to pander to her every whim...it implys that she can be fussy and it just gets worse...a friend of mine's little girl is a nighmare and I'm sure it's because she's always had her own way...
anyway - that's my angle...tricky one
let me know how you get on..
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 14, 2003
Thanks for the advice.
We've already sussed out the texture and shape stuff but all was evidant yesterday evening.
Waking up from her last sleep of the day, all the clues were there .... bright red cheeks, stinking nappy (oh, the stench of night-soil) and two little teeth poking through the gums.
Faster than you can say baby-drugging, Calpol was given and her meal was gobbled down .
Back to the music thread, have you any of these?
P.Weller - Wild Wood
Roxy music
Rem - any before "Green"
Early eighties Lou Reed
Your email really cheered my morning up

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 14, 2003
yeah....what the f**k is it about teething that makes their shit stink SO much...
good you've discovered the wonder of Calpol...administer liberally and at any given oppertunity (joke)....DO NOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT! keep a bottle in the glove-box of your car.
I'm not joking, we had a nightmare weekend at a mates place one time during the teething...of course they never need it when the chemist is open! Bongela is good too...minime (and he really is a chip off the old DNA) still had a dummy at night and a little Bongela on the dummy worked a treat....
If you've ever had a wisdom tooth come through!!! f**k, it's no wonder they get pissed off...imagine wisdom teeth x 30! (or whatever it is)....I'd be pissed off..
anyway - figured it could have been the case - glad she's cool
back to music - the olny CD stuff I could offer is early REM...
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 14, 2003
Rem would be
I have the first - Murmer?
But of the top of my head am missing all the rest.........
maybe that could fill up gaps for a while.
Before spender was born, we were warned about *TEETHING NAPPYS* ... but were not sure what they meant. But now ....... yech, not only the smell but the colour ........ and why are they runny!
She has only about 6 teeth to go, so hopefully soon, this particular piece of hell is over for her (& us)!

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 14, 2003
Early REM on disc = Fables of the Reconstruction (I've a feeling it's a best of early stuff).
the connection with growing teeth and stink and consistency has always been a mystery to me....maybe one for Ask H2G2?

dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 23, 2003
ok, I've done you a Turin Brakes....but held back because I wanted to know if you want me to scratch janis in favour of m*******a - the black album or S&M (with the San Fran. Symphony Orchestra).....interested?
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 24, 2003
Nah, I think I'll still have the Janis thanks but keep the hard stuff for the next exchange!
What are you after next? ....... I've kinda lost count!
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 24, 2003
oky doky boss, janis it is
I'd be up of the compilation you described in posting 47...and I must admit I've been getting into White Stripes (as has the mrs!)...so similar..emm Hives, Datsuns?
or a Hawkwind for old times sake....?
any thoughts?
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
dugdog <a.k.a. - corla planktun...buffer of the tiny ruby> Posted Mar 28, 2003
so what's the score toon-wise?
I reckon:
yoo doo - the compilation mentioned (post 47) and whichever is best out of Hives and Datsuns 4 me...and
eye doo - Fables Of The Reconstruction (early REM) and METTALICA (there I've said it) the Black Album 4 U?
waddayreckon?
JUST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE THREAD...
superdogmonkey Posted Mar 28, 2003
Lets do it .... I can probably fit Hives and Datsuns on same CD.
The comp may take a day or two but.............
