Hello Superdogmonkey! I see you've posted in this week's Talking Point a couple of times.
Anyway... I'm an 'ACE', which stands for Assistant Community Editor, and means that I have volunteered to do various things, which includes helping new users, like yourself, to find their feet in h2g2. However, I can't do this if you don't reply to me!
To help you find a few places, <./>ThePost</.>, h2g2s online newspaper (which comes out weekly on a Thursday), has set up several pages which can be found here: A660304. There you can look through clubs and societies, regional researcher groups, virtual 'worlds', and other things as well.
There are also some 'official' help pages, which can be found here: <./>DontPanic</.>, and here: <./>Welcome-Newcomers</.>
A very helpful and completely unofficial page explaining any and all jargon used on h2g2 can be found here: A632431 .
Anyway, don't worry if it takes you a while to get back to me, I have a plentiful supply of and and , which you can help yourself to as well if you like.
And don't forget to enjoy yourself on h2g2, whatever you do!

Hello Ming mang!
Thanks for your intro...... very welcoming.
I have to say as a newcomer to all things internetty, this is by far the best thing I have found. Interesting & thoughtful + very addictive.
a couple of questions if I may be so bold!!
On my home page I am getting ready some stuff to enter.....how do I get a nice big title banner (in a colour like other people)?
In your ACE guise, do you have certain strands that you monitor?
How do you allocate new members to help out?
I'm just curious as to how this works. To many other sites tend to descend into a swirling haze of ignorance/stupidity/ineptitude etc.

h2g2 is certainly addictive. I was a newbie to the internet when I found h2g2, and I've been here for over two years ever since.
A title banner? I'm not sure what you mean... However, you can change the colour and size of the font you are using with GuideML tags. Have a look here: A155701, here: <./>GuideML-Clinic</.>, and here: <./>GuideML-Syntax</.> for information on GuideML. The tags you need to change the colour and size of your writing - in articles, like your space, only (not forums like this) - are like this: This text would appear bigger than other text and red. This text would be back to normal.
We help mainly by welcoming newcomers, but also we help find and calm people in very heated disagreements down. Any researchers can do any of these things, however.
We aren't allocated newbies - rather, we wander round finding you ourselves. We do have a tool which helps us find you, however.
I admit, I wouldn't know. The only online community I've ever joined is h2g2.
Anyway, do ask if you have any other questions.

Oops, sorry about that double post... *sigh* this is a relatively new mouse, and it's already sticky.

Hey ming mang, just a quick thanks for the help you gave me at the beginning!
it was a strange place but you helped by being a freindly voice.
I now find it hard to keep up with everything

Yeah, it's very addictive. I like the way you can wander around, just looking and maybe joining in. There is also some serious stuff if you want to look for it. I'm in the middle of my first big guide entry and wondering how the hell am I going to type it all in one go!

Ming Mang Posted Jun 13, 2002
Yep! Oh- one small thing about joining in on conversations, that I have learnt - don't join in a conversation between only two people - they are generally 'private', if that's possible on a public site.
Oh, that problem's simple: don't type it all in one go!

Yeah, I realised quite early on that there were some threads that were "private"..... also some are so up their own arses I would not dream of joining!!
mmmmmm, thats possibly come out stronger than I thought!!
oh well

Ming Mang Posted Jun 14, 2002
Ah, that's OK then. I was rather insensitive to that when I joined and wrecked several private threads for people...
Heh heh, yeah probably.
How's it going then?
