Introduction
Empty pages are such a bore, so it's probably a good thing that I put something here for you to read now that you have arrived
Who, Where, How, Why?
After a long undistinguished and unspectacular carreer in the military I decided, a few years back, that it was time to get a proper job. Which is how I now find myself living on the south coast in Poole, Dorset working, like almost everyone else, in IT.
Poole was neither a random choice or my first choice, at the time I had no familial links or ties to anywhere in particular within the UK and therefore I chose my first civilian home purely on the basis of where I could find both accommodation and employment. However, not long afterwards I met a wonderful lady from Poole through an online community. Twelve months later we married and I moved the seventy miles to my second civilian home.
I stumbled into H2G2 a few weeks ago while doing a search for something which now eludes me, as it probably did then. I thought then that free space on the net isn't to be sniffed at and here's the BBC of all people offering me a canvass for my thoughts. I haven't figured out how much I'll have to write to recover the value of my TV licence

Why Triglav?
Online names are picked for all sorts of reasons. Some are picked because people want something that represents their personality or identifies them with a particular place or an activity.
Why not just use your own name? Being called Dave pretty much meant that in any community I visited my given name would already have been registered. Which left me with the option of being Dave128 or something else similarly unmemorable and, being involved in more than one chat community, the confusion of perhaps being Dave128 in one area and something completely different, like Dave100, in another! By finding a name that is unlikely to be picked by anyone else it provides the option to be recognised as yourself in different environments - there was a time when I was the only Triglav on ICQ!
I chose Triglav many (well six, does that count as many) years ago when I first became involved in a chat community in another place. I needed a name that was unlikely to be chosen by anyone else and a name that was distinctive enough for people to remember. I found Triglav by sticking a pin in a book of mythological names - later I found out who he was!
Triglav
Three-headed Slavonic war god of the Baltic area, known especially from Stettin and Brandenburg. The three heads represents the three realms: that of heaven, earth, and the underworld
