Hope this doesn;t spread! Seems to be missing a fairly fundamental understanding of what librarians do, what libraries do and they are not the same as the Internet and a search engine.

Well I'll be finding out if I still have a job full time and at the current level just before the Easter break.
Management haven't a clue what happens on the campus of either unis or colleges. I know my big boss at one point thought I spend the whole day behind my desk stamping books - I soon put him right on that one.
Unfortunatly for libraries the forward in the managers minds is not through books. Apparently everything anyone could ever need to know about can be found online and soon the libraries can be disposed of and turned into cuputer suits.
One of the directors at the college HQ was known as Mr Burn all the books ------ ----- (insert real name).
They designed a new library for one of the campuses and didn't consult any library staff at all during the whole process. What they've now got is a massive computer suit downstairs, a mezanine level which isn't strong enough to take the weight of all the books, and no way in whick to get the book trollys from the returns desk on the ground floor back up to the library level. Also rather limits anyone with mobility difficulties as well.
Sorry for the rant, am feeling a tad vlnerable at work atm.

Sorry about that, yes things are a little tense down here. Everyone is trying to save money and the easiest way to do it is to reduce student support and services.
