Don't know if you caught the programme on Sat night about Robin Hood Fact or Fiction with Tony Robinson?
Anyway, of perhaps some interest, one of the possible candidates for being RObin Hood (although someway down the list) is a fellow from Loxley in Warwickshire (near startford on avon) by the name of Robert Fitrz Odo, bastard son of, would you believe it, one Bishop Odo! Robert Fitz Odo is dated 1100's some time (can;t remember what they said).

Anyway, there is apparently his tomb in Loxley warwickshire. It appears to be somewhat unlikely that he was robin hood, or the source since the robin hood / loxley connection is almost certainly made up.

But thought you might find it interesting. Apparently the 'fitz' bit of the name means 'illegitimate son of'.

So there ya go! Just did a quick google and seems this is fairly well known so sorry of re-iterating stuff you know.

I ran into him at Carisbroke Castle on the Isle of White. He was finally cornered there during the rebellion, before he was exiled from Britain. I keep running into him!

Well he obviously had a fairly eventful life didn;t he? Riches land owner in England post 1066, heavily involved in the conquest of england. Father of Robin Hood ( ) and a bishop. Guess that must mean Robins mum had a virgin birth then Begins to sound mor elike the baby eating bishop all the time
