It's been a while

since I last updated this. Nearly two months infact.

Well Clare, my wife, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on the 01 May 2002, and I am now the gushingly proud father of two smiley - smiley

We named her Grace, and just like her brother, she has been an angel from day one.

It still hasn't sunk in properly that we have had a girl, that in just a short time I'll be banning her from staying out late, and vetting all prospective boyfriends.
I hope I will be a cool, laid back dad, who she can approach and share her problems with, but I already know how awkward it will be for me to watch my baby growing up. A father/daughter relationship is all new to me. I am so eager to find out how it goes.
Do all fathers feel the desire to see their sons succeed and prosper and do all the things we never did when we were young, while for their daughters, we want them to be safe and secure.

It makes me feel embarrassed sounding this sexist, afterall, in this day and age I know that there is no job that a woman cannot do, men and women are equal in so many ways, but I feel this instinctive worry for Grace that I didn't feel for Charlie. Like I want to protect her from any harm that life may throw at her, whereas with Charlie, I want to encourage him to face up to anything that he encounters.
Are these old fashioned stereotypes surfacing in me, or do all fathers feel this way about sons and daughters ?
Either way, I know I will do all that I can to make both my kids lives as happy as possible, 'cos that is what they have done to my life smiley - smiley

I am so lucky to have a perfect wife and two perfect children, it makes me want to do better myself to earn this privilege. I hope I can.

Life

(mental note to title the next two subjects 'the universe' 'and everything')

Well, I'm just about to become a proud father for the second time.
Only 4 days according to the doctors precise calculations, and when are doctors ever wrong smiley - winkeye
I really can't wait, it is such a priviledge to be present when a new life is brought into this world. Especially as that life is a part of me. It truely is a miracle.

Having been through it once before when Charlie was born hasn't made this pregnancy any less exciting or wonderful for Clare and I, it's still so amazing that a tiny baby can live inside another person.

I hope Clare's labour goes as smoothly and painlessly as possible, I know I'll be by her side offering support and encouragemnt through it all. And there's nowhere on earth I'd rather be.

Wish us luck as our lives start another new chapter.

Ewww a journal

This is cool. I Feel like the captain of a ship keeping a record of my adventures........

Ship's Log, Wednesday the 10th of April , in the year of our Lord 2002.
Slight north easterly wind a blowing, keeping me on a steady tack to the station this morning.
Several outbreaks of scurvey in the crew, increased the rum ration to keep ships morale up.
Still no sign of land, but by my calculations we lie 25 yards off the pier of Bognor.

As with all diaries and journals I've ever had, I'll probably make just one entry, and then forget all about them.
