re: editing your own work

thought I had on reading thread: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/A792533

ok, maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud, but as a self confessed speller of incorect words, and user of poor gramer when it comes to writing, I feel a bit odd at seeing this in this day and age.

yes, when writing certian types of things, essays, or high literature, ofcourse one would like to be a wee bit more careful with the errors of dayly typing. but there are other types of writing, and English being a living language, the rule book is contantly beeing edited quicker than it can be updated. 'proper english' and 'every day english' are about as close to eachother as your sterio typical american to your real life fun loving american. (don't worrie, I'm not american, but I'm sure I love them all dearly)

or maybe I have spent too long as a poet, where I've found the mis-use of spelling and puntuation far more usefull then the proper use of it. for what ever reason, I could probly bennifit from better use of editing, but at the moment...

essays and the EU

School assingments use to be such a boor, pairents naging, television needed watching before I would even aknowladge the mear thought of homework. that was when I use to attend school. now, more difficult problems arise. the fact that I no longer have a tv is nothing, I don't mind, and it gives me more time to do things. how ever, I have far less time to do things now than ever before. it was easyer living with pairents because they take care of the household stuff. but back to essays and assingments. full time job, comute and distance learning leaves me no time to do the little things to keep me happy. oh well, back to work. I mean studdy. the European Union is to misty a concept to be writting essays on.

It's all just stuff

Hey, I've finished my book. It needs to go into my virtual bottom drawer for a week or so, then I will try the first edit.

The EU. So confusing. I don't understand it. Does anyone? I wish I could take a break from it, but I need to write my essay. Democracy. Why bother? How can all these people feel they have the right to complain if they did not even vote? I don't think I will ever understand the English.

I think I will go back to writing fiction. King Arthur has been done to death, but some of his knights have been ignored. Epic poem? More like a movie script. I'll just let the idea brew. If he equalled Lancelot in battle, then maybe the story would sell. smiley - zen

Ebert seems to be on holiday of late so he hasn't said anything fun recently. I will have to go find some wise auld sayings for him.

publishing to vindeloo

Ok, so I'm a day away from finishing the first draft of this new book. To be perfectly honest, my first book.

Give a few more weeks for editing and illustrations, and then bing, all finished.

Then what? smiley - huh

How do I find a publisher? Do I look in the book store for similar style books and write to them? Do I submit to them one at a time? That would make sense. Should I try and publish my own. No that wouldn't work for this style of book. I want it out in time for the winter holiday buying spree, so maybe, mid to late November. smiley - huh

I'm going to type some more book, then when my head hurts, vindeloo because I accidentally defrosted my freezer yesterday and have sooo much chicken. After that, I might finish my bottle of red wine and then return to the wonderful web and see if anyone has talked to me. Sounds fun, eh?

sleep, why so much? (a rant)

I wonder how much sleep I really need. I could do so many more things in a day if I didn't have to worry about tiredness and such. I've tried coffee to help me stay awake and achieve more when I am up, but emotionally, it's more draining than being up and about on my own power.
There are people that I know that sleep far less than I, but they somehow have the same about of time in the day and often accomplish less than me.
I've tried reducing it from 8 to 6 or 7 hours sleep, but after a week and a bit, I'm all grumpy. I wonder what solution there could be.
I don't intend to get everything done in a day, if I did than I would have to find some way of altering time so that there are 47 hours in a day or more, depending on the time of year. I seem to be doing better this year, maybe that's just because the weather's so lovely.

Night night. I'm off to smiley - sleepy.
